Forum software changes

Yeah, one of my threads last year ended up filled with cat and dog videos…

Nothing wrong with that!

I know we have asked the Forum Support Reps about the change, but I have not heard, or don’t remember, the answer off the top of my head.

Nothing wrong with the dog part anyway…

I’m more concern that they take away the patch notes from the game guide. Now, I can’t reference them any more.

Whoa whoa whoa. I go back to those on a pretty regular basis.

That’s a terrible idea. So now we can no longer access patch notes?

Ok, this is a problem. A fairly large problem. I hope it is temporary and they are just working on updating software. I will ask about this one. I use them a lot too.

It might be useful for someone to make a Wiki of these (in a different forum).

Testing TL2: 2.6.8

Which forum would you suggest?

I would think that General Discussion or New Player Help Forums would be appropriate.

(Sorry for the necro-bump).

After these thoughts:

  • put it in the forum where it will most likely be made a sticky
  • put it in a forum where it “makes sense”

With those concepts, my preferred forum would be Technical Support. (IMO)

General would be 2nd. New Players last.

I wouldn’t have considered that one. Mainly because of the forum description:

Technical Support

For issues installing/patching/connecting to Diablo III or crashes.

That would my first choice because it is general information.

This might be a good choice for new or returning players to access what changes have been made to the game and when.

I think I’ll put it in the General Discussion Forum. It might get buried, but players who use it regularly can bookmark it.

Thanks for the suggestions.

This raises the question… how do we get useful stuff turned into a sticky?

You have to get one of the CMs to do it for you. So basically, they have to read it and decide to do it OR I have to talk to them directly.

It took years to get the Cosmetics thread stickied - did not happen until we had the new forums and I asked Nev to pretty please do that.

@TinneOnnMuin: Hi,

Just a heads-up… Those links no longer work with the dismissal of the us.diablo3.com domain… all these need to be replaced by us.diablo3.blizzard.com. The (very) little testing I did seems to indicate that this is the only part that needs changing… but I haven’t tested all of them (yet !).

Also… for your info… here are 3 links you could add to your list.

2.7: https://us.diablo3.blizzard.com/en-us/blog/23647866
2.7.1: https://us.diablo3.blizzard.com/en-us/blog/23695733
2.7.2: https://us.diablo3.blizzard.com/en-us/blog/23746130

This new domain name is getting to be a real pain in… you know what. It would have been nice if Blizzard would have provided some explanation on the reasons behind that change. But… :man_shrugging:

Cheers !

if Blizzard can’t get a website working right, what hope have we of fixing game problems…

And here is another problem…that URL auto redirects to the EN-GB sub site…which is crap for me, since it goes to D3 Euro…and not D3 US…

This is not the first time that Blizzard forum devs have screwed such a simple thing up.

PS I’m in Australia, if the devs are routing via IP address of web browser, then I still should be being redirected to the EN-US sub site…and no, I am not using a VPN to alter my IP address.

Redirects are region specific. I’d have to ask the web moderators if the software is being upgraded, with no guarantee of a response.

I think it was to recognize that Diablo was a Blizzard trademark/property by adding the blizzard part to the address. Diablo by itself has other meanings and other internet people were probably hoping for more precision from Blizzard to free up some search parameters…

Australia has always been aligned with the US. I’d been going to https://us.diablo3.com/ for months without issue. And it went to EN-US. The same URL is now suddenly (for the past 5 or 6 days) going to EN-GB. And if I click on the forum link, it takes me to the EU forums. I’ve worked for long enough in IT to know what I am talking about.

edit: it’s easy enough for me to simply change EN-GB to EN-US and work around the problem, but I shouldn’t have to. Blizzard changed something at their end and didn’t test it properly.

Thanks, I went and updated all the links and added the new patches.
