Fix for D3D ERROR ON START UP

Your mileage may vary, but this worked for me;

In the BattleNet desktop app with Diablo as the main screen go into Options > Game Settings > under Diablo 3 click on Reset In-Game options (this only reset my Sound and Graphic settings. It didn’t mess with my Keybinds or Gameplay settings).

Once that’s done click on Play. Don’t start the game yet; on the bottom right click on the PC icon and go to Options. Set your Max Foreground to 60 and the Max background to 30. Apply. and Accept. This Max Foreground and Max Background settings of 60 and 30 have completely fixed this stupid bug. Not sure if it’s a video driver bug or a bug in the game but it needs to be fixed.

At the recommendation of Tom’s Hardware I invested in Driver Easy. Best money I ever spent… every driver that exists on my Win 10 PC is fully up to date. I do use the GeForce Experience software to keep my RTX 2060 up to date since it offers a clean install option.

I hope this helps!

I updated already the dxdiag and my graphic card drivers. I cant still start or initialize the game. Unfortunately, I don’t know how to attach an image here so that I can show the error that the software shows.

Any clue about it, or should I but a new computer lol?

No… not really.

You should probably open up a ticket with Blizzard Support… Go to Blizzard Support - Contact Support and click on the Contact Us button.

This will bring up a “form” where you can describe the problem and attach the screenshot. You will have to create 2 reports (called DxDiag.txt and MSInfo.txt) and attach them to the ticket.

A Blizzard Support person will review the information and will reply… you will get an e-mail with instructions on how to access the reply, and how to add supplementary information if needed.

The Blizzard support team helped me resolve the issue! The reason was the high resolution of my display. I set it down to 1280 x 780 and everything works fine now! I also reset the in-game settings, hope that helps many other with the sae issue.

Support answer:
One thing we saw acusing this error some time ago was corrupted Windows grapihcs settings, and there is an easy way to check if this is the case with the following steps to reset the screen resolution in Windows:

  1. Right click the desktop
  2. Select Display settings
  3. Select Advanced Display settings
  4. Click the drop down to change the Screen resolution
  5. Change it to what ever you want, we will just change it back after
  6. With this done, before you start the game, lets Reset the game settings Resetting In-Game Options - Blizzard Support
