When I open stash - “Filter items…” field is focused automatically, awaiting my input. If I want to close stash immediately - I hit Space and instead of closing it just… types space into field. This is quite illogical. First, why would anyone search anything that starts with space? Second, why is it focused by default? Searching items by typing their names is not as common as just looking around and switching tabs. Besides, you have to switch tabs manually to apply filter to them - this new search feature doesn’t highlight other tabs with found items.
What I suggest - just don’t focus it by default on stash opening. That’s it.
This isn’t a bug. They designed it that way. It was pointed out on the PTR they introduced the function that it shouldn’t immediately grab the focus when the stash was opened. They ignored that feedback.
The fact devs ignored something doesn’t automatically make that “not a bug”. If it wasn’t a bug - it would be explicitly stated. Possibly, they didn’t just feel this bug is serious enough to care.
Or is it?
A feature when you CAN’T do something that you previously could for nothing can hardly be called “feature”. You gained nothing by having search field auto focused, but lost an ability to quickly and conveniently close window - an obvious UX problem.
With this in mind, it is not working as intended and could be viewed as a bug.
Personally, I find it a minor annoyance, but would still like to see it fixed. In the meantime, I’m learning to walk away from my Stash and use the Spacebar everywhere else.
If you do something with the stash, such as pick up something and move it to your inventory, or pick something in your inventory and move it to the stash, or even just change tabs, the focus will move from the filter window to the stash and you will be able to close the stash by hitting the spacebar. Note that right-clicking won’t do that… you need to physically click somewhere in the stash or the inventory. Heck, even just picking up an item in the stash or in your inventory and putting it back will move the focus to the stash.
So the bug, if you want to call it that, is not with the spacebar not closing the stash… it is with the design decision to give the focus to the filter window upon entering the stash. One day, soon I hope, some developper will see the light and fix that by giving the focus to the stash… and then we will hear the lamentations of all those who think the filter window should have the focus when entering the stash.
Edit : just thought I’d add something… the current setup with the inventory is akin to if, when I open the Blacksmith window, it would default to crafting a number of my first weapon available… as in:
Hitting the spacebar does nothing… because the focus is in the window with the number of crossbows one wants to make – and because the window is expecting a number. The same can be said with the Jeweller window… if the focus is in the number window, you need to move the focus first… and that is not a bug.
The decision to put the focus in the number window however… that’s highly debatable, if not plain wrong.
@Perusoe
That’s exactly what I was talking about. Blizzard has always been known for their thought-out polished UIs and this discrepancy with their standards doesn’t look like Blizzard at all.
Btw, “Space” button removing clutter from screen served faithfully very first Diablo game and I don’t see any reason to change that good feature after 20+ years.
That’s not entirely true. You need to LEFT click with mouse to lose input focus, but most of the time actions are performed by RIGHT mouse button which DOES NOT make field lose focus (which, obviously, is another UI bug).
This annoyance forces me to make an extra action. Each. And. Every. Time.
In my Diablo version opening craft window doesn’t preselect any of items and input is not focused.
I’ve just rechecked all NPCs I could find and as many other interface windows I could reach - there’s no single window in game where text input gets focus immediately when window opens. The Stash window - is the only one with such faulty behavior.
I guess I should have been more explicit… all the examples I gave require that you use the left mouse button. And I explicitely said that right-clicking doesn’t work.
All in all… you can call it what you want… bug or something else, I don’t really care. This issue was brought up during the PTR of Patch 2.6.5, along with other deficiencies of the filtering system (these only comes up if you play the game in a language other than English). The fact is that Blizzard has known about this since last May… and they haven’t done a thing about it since then. My guess is that they don’t care about the focus window issue… or the issues in other languages.
and I would agree with that… however, this conversation is now transforming into a discussion of the filtering « feature »… and this forum is the wrong place for it.
The OP reports what he or she believes to be a bug… it is up to Blizzard to decide if and how they want to pursue this.
