I agree… that arcane enchanted laser rotating like a clock doesnt fit diablo at all…
desecreator and plagued are almost the same in the end… DoT standing on area, like wow just move away from it.
It would be nice to revamp redesign the special powers of the elite/champion affixes.
We have seen frozen and mortar make a comeback in the demo. I like the animations of mortar. Not so much with frozen.
Be nice to see some originality here.
I always wondered if these affixes should be something that players can’t use or should they be based on player used skills - I think there are pro’s and con’s for either choice.
I’m sorry, but the idea, that a fantasy world cannot possibly have internal logic and elements of realism, therefore anything goes is something I’ll never agree with.
By that logic, if Luke Skywalker had jumped and sliced the nearby sun with his lightsaber and someone said “that doesn’t make sense”, you can simply dismiss him by saying “oh, but it’s fantasy”. Sorry, no.
Yes, hits from powerful monsters should interrupt you and that is logical, even in a fantasy world. IMO not every monser should be able to do it.
It adds an interesting mechanic, that actually affects game play as opposed to many useless things in D3.
And if you wanna circumvent such a mechanic, or at least diminish the effects of such attacks and recover faster – then get the stat for it.
The other day I played some Diablo 1. I wanted to kill Diablo, but some of the minions were immune… so I figured, might as well jump in and nuke him.
And it’s what I did, while using a plate armor with “fastest hit recovery” and I managed to pull it off. If I didn’t have that chest, I’d most likely get stunlocked to death, but I was prepared and it felt good.
It felt like I’m actually playing a game and my decisions count for something.
In regards to faster hit recovery, didn’t they just rename that to toughness?
I did enjoy how (fhr) faster hit recovery was meaningful in d1. Even as a melee character, if you didn’t have enough said attribute then you couldn’t get a swing off if you were surrounded.
Either way some people want hard challenging stuff and some want the big red easy button to push anytime they want so… i expect we’ll get something in the middle. In regards to fhr again, its probably renamed or tied in with some innate ability.
The stats Toughness and Recovery seem to be some sort of combinations of various stats. For Toughness it seems to be a combination of various damage reductions, while Recovery recovery is a combination of your various life regen type of stats in relation to your toughness…
But I don’t care about any of that and neither should you. The important stats for defense are Armor, Resistances and damage reduction from certain sets or legendary items. When you hover with your mouse over your resistances, you can see how they get affected by such procs.
Hit Recovery in D1 and D2 is something completely different. Monster hits can interrupt what you’re doing.
There’s no better way to explain Faster Hit Recovery than this video by Carbot:
With Faster or “fastest” Hit Recovery, the character would be able to… well… recover faster after being hit and not get constantly interrupted and pulled back. Although this is an animation, it plays out pretty much exactly the same in-game.
That’s why I often see people saying how “smooth” and “responsive” D3 is compared to the previous games, when in reality, those posters failed to understand, that you being interrupted was actually a mechanic in those games.
I play D1 right now. I made a this picture to illustrate what sort of affixes items had back in D1 and D2. You can see the “Fastest Hit Recovery” stats on the plate armor: http://i.imgur.com/Oc5gv65.jpg
Toughness is just a rough estimate of how much damage(before your mitigation) you can take before you die.
Though for me it’s not about too hard or easy, but rather that I don’t think a stagger mechanic and a FHR stat to counter-act that adds anything of value to the game that can’t be gained through a less annoying mechanic.
The game making a stat mandatory so melee can not get stunlocked to death isn’t a challenge. It’s a limitation of gearing, because FHR is now more or less a requirement for melee characters with how bad people want stagger to be.
Getting a stat isn’t hard in a Diablo game. FHR has nothing to do with challenge.
This reminds me that the voices of monsters in D1 were by far the best between D1, D2 and particularly D3 (clearly difference when skelletons shout like monsters when you kill them in D3 and killing skelletons in D1 you clearly just hear bones dropping to the ground).
Ofc they should not if you want specific details of anatomy… theres the slight detail of fantasy on the diablo series.
But i guess many prefer skelletons being only able to move and swing swords/shoot arrows instead of also being able to talk or scream dont you think?
Ugh, this deserves its own thread for me haha. I like immediately commented on the frozen affix graphic when I was watching the game-play with my buddy. A bunch of swirling growing icy orbs that pop up and grow all over the place is kind of ridiculous and immersion killing for me. Same with the arcane lasers I would despite for that to return.
I am not too opinionated either way in terms of whether players can use them. I would just like to see them fit a bit more naturally into combat. Some graphic effects obviously totally cool but I don’t think it needs to be like an insane jumble of colors.
This is just a personal preference but I would like to see them be less of a like total “screen takeover”. The skill animations in general are already pretty hectic if all the mob affixes are huge puddles and orbs and spraying everywhere it all just becomes a bit too much of a color explosion.
Stun, Freeze and etcetera kept you hitting or firing a ranged weapon in D3. Getting locked in place kept you from hitting if you were using a melee skill and no monster was in range.
Monsters in D2 used all character skills as far as I remember. Probably used some skills not available to character classes. See no reason why D4 will not do both.
