Excessively dark atmosphere in d4?

Does anyone else think the atmosphere seems overly dark in diablo 4? It doesnt have to be unicorns and rainbows but i would really like not to feel depressed when i play a video game for fun

No not dark enough as they already lightened things up since the original ‘darkening’ showcase. Now it looks like Twilight sparkling zones unless i’m seeing things. And i don’t mean metal objects. As for not feeling depressed… hell is trying to destroy our world.

Well at the end of D3 RoS, there was a near genocide that was inflicted on Humanity. And even as we enter Diablo 4 (decades later), humanity has barely recovered from it, now they’re facing even more threats. So it seems dark enough to me.

On the other hand, if you’re just talking about the lighting, I’m sure you’ll be able to adjust it in the options.

Damn dude, you spend more time on here complaining and calling for nerfs than you possibly can playing or researching a game thats not been released.

Cant wait till the d4 forums are available so you can flood them with bs too.

I dont really care one way or another about “darkness”, but I do think the color scheme of the game is too desaturated

I hear what you’re saying, but this is a visual change that just needed to happen. I enjoyed my time with Diablo 3, but the art direction/visuals/color scheme was like the opposite of what Diablo should be. It should be eerie, depressing, void of enjoyment, etc. Anything they can do to evoke those feelings should be incorporated. Diablo 1 and 2 were games very twisted in their own right, and nothing overly happy or good really came out of them in terms of the characters and story. Even when the good guys won, they really didn’t, or there was some kind of twist.

That and Malthael did just genocide most of the planet, so civilization I imagine would definitely be in it’s rebuilding stage, with their morale down in the dirt. Also, keep the color schemes desaturated like they are now. It leaves a more gritty and realistic feel to it, that the franchise needs. Diablo has to walk that fine line of being something that involves fantasy and such, but at the same time feels like something real that could have happened during this time period.

I honestly think everything they’ve shown so far is a home run. I wouldn’t change a thing.

It’s hilarious… for more than a decade we’ve seen endless streams of complaints how D3 is “not dark enough” so Blizzard accommodates those complaints and darkens up D4 and before it hits the shelves… “it’s too dark”

Some people are just going to complain no matter what happens.

i feel like if you have to say the game is “dark”, then you dont understand what made diablo “dark” in the first place. d4 is going to be the most disappointing game of the decade.

Eventually, it will be similar to those old cartoon episodes where the background and foreground are black with the only visible element being a pair of eyes or teeth as the sheer whiteness contrast is easy and cheap to animate.

I am reminded of Doom. I loved playing the original Doom. They decided to remake it and I bought it and it was a lot like what you are describing.

Running around essentially total blackness. Monsters would spawn very close, in front or behind you. I always thought, “what is the point of having great graphics, if you only see a black screen for 90% of the Game?”

The cash shop should be able to offer additional rainbows and unicorns for $5 and $10 each. Unicorns are more expensive because they are special.
