Get all excited to see a level of goblins. Yeah buddy. It’s killin time.
Go crazy and kill all of them before looting the ground.
Take your time and enjoy the looting the carpet of legendaries and crafting materials.
Then you see it. The Timer of Doom. WHAT? HOW?
Yup. The realization that one of those goblins was the vision portal goblin. SNEAKY!
In the frenzy of killing the goblin scrum, you killed the vision portal goblin, and ACCIDENTLY TOUCHED THE LOOT CHEST! NOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Worst part? It’s a very low countdown too. Just a few seconds vs. the Goblin Vault or even an echoing Nightmare. Not. Enough. Time. To gather all those lovely loots.
That has happened to me twice with the Frenzy Barbarian. Once as I was leveling, so I really didn’t care that I missed all the pre level 70 loots. Once when I was in the 300’s in paragon levels. That one kind of stung. Not knowing of the legendaries were useful or not. Missing out on all those crafting materials. Poor Bumble can only pwn so many materials at a time. He gets tuckered out you know. Luckily for me I didn’t see any primals or ethereals. I would have mad dashed to those in a heartbeat. Missing them would have been a stab to the brain.
So, out of all do curiosity, has that ever happened to you before? If so, how bad did you get bleeped? Or were you lucky enough and you got everything (or most) before the timer hit 0?
I always clear the map, then loot. If I don’t see the blue portal, I know the end goblin is there and am very careful. I have hit it on accident on a random map before, but then there is time to clear.
Not sure it ever happened to me in a goblin level. But I have misclicked a few times especially when visions were first introduced.
I prefer ranged builds in visions because it’s easier and less risky as opposed to run around and hit almost every single monster.
Taking about mistakes; in a recent echoing nightmare before it even started when I was just checking the location of pylons I happened to activate the power pylon… What a start! Made it past 125 anyway. Also when dealing with the machinations spewing out streams of monsters I have to be careful not to hit/click a pylon.
Just for clarity: There’s no such thing as a “vision portal goblin”.
In Visions, the Goblin never opens a Portal. It only spawns the Diabolical Chest. It marks the end Level of a Vision of Enmity. It would be more accurate to drop “Portal” and just call it the “Vision Chest Goblin” or the “Diabolical Chest Goblin”.
But, to answer your question: No, I never did this on a Goblin Level.
Like @Alexismad, if I don’t see the blue Portal open I know the Chest is on the ground. (I also check to see if there’s a yellow arrow on the Mini-Map. The arrow will point to a Portal or the Chest unless it’s a small Map or you’re already close to it).
Like @Jazz, I play a ranged Character. It also happened to me when Visions were first introduced. Just not on a Goblin Level.
I have misclicked quite a few and didn’t think much of it since those weren’t big losses. Never happened to me on a Goblin floor but in case one of them carries the exit chest I always prioritize anything but plain Treasure Goblins. Not much you can do about it once you misclick the chest as a melee character which happens often. I usually swap my main close combat skill to right mouse click and keep initiating skills or buffs to left mouse click to avoid such thing but sometimes you lack a proper choice for a spender, deal damage with two different skills and it just happens. Best prevention you have is prioritizing Insufferable Miscreants, Odious Collectors or Malevolent Tormentors to help you not to misclick again.
It’d be nice if we could instead have vision portals closed by talking to Orek. That way we could gather loot without worry of auto-closing. It would also make it less stressful on players in multiplayer games when it comes to looting (no, it wouldn’t stop jerks from closing the vision, but at least it wouldn’t auto-close on clicking the chest).
Now that I think about it, it did happen to me this season. Like naksiloth I usually have main attack on right mouse click so clicking the chest can’t happen in combat. So while gathering all the loot, being tired and less concentrated the chest suddenly popped (been hiding under all the labels). I only lost a couple of lesser legendaries and maybe some dbs… it was before I had the pet picking up dbs unlocked so there was extra clutter on the screen.
I am normally cautious, especially with the Frenzy Barb since my main attack is the left click button, and my Falter is on the right click button, but I got all nice and excited when I saw the floor covered with goblins and went on a killing spree. I couldn’t help myself. I got caught up in the moment. It’s a Barbarian thing.
I usually target the green ones first, then teal, then orange, and save the regular goblins for last. But, good ol’ Frenzy have that slight aoe attack thanks to having the 2-hander in the cube. At full frenzy stacks, it’s an insta killer on T16 mobbies. If I have Wrath up, then the insta killing is super fast. So, that VISION PORTAL GOBLIN (hehehehehe) was in my way (posing as a regular goblin of course) and so was that dang VISION PORTAL GOBLIN CHEST OF LOOTY GOODNESS.
The Echoing Nightmares? I hate those rings of summoning with a passion. I hate them even more when they are right next to a pylon, especially the lightning one. If it is pre wave 100, it really sucks. I try my best not to accidently touch the pylon. I am willing to give up a cheat death to make sure I can save the pylon. But, if it is post wave 100, I don’t care. I just need to make it to wave 126 so I can get a 125 gem. I say 126, because I have let it end at wave 125 before and I got stuck with a 124 gem. GRRRRRRRRR!!!
So what is the big deal on what somebody calls it. So you can call them, Vision portal goblin, Vision Chest Goblin, Diabolical Chest Goblin or even Treasure Goblin. If you really want to get down to what it really is, all it is a Treasure Goblin.
The thing is if you are using headsets. You will hear the Goblin in that area. Plus the other thing is almost every body that does them rush through them. Like the world is coming to a END!!!
The other problem is when you do hit a Goblin LVL. There really no way to tell which one is the one that will drop the chest.
Headset? A set of speakers will do fine as well I suppose. Also this is about a level with dozens of goblins that all chatter. Not about the “normal” levels where there may only be one, final goblin that usually is clearly heard.
About the mindless rushing; play with friends, if you have any (I mean friends in the game, not real life friends that you probably have lots of) or family or play solo. Even in non SSF no one is forced to team up.
This has happened to me, I remember one time but maybe twice.
But I hate having my main attack on left click so it is never there and I also don’t use it to move so then it is almost impossible to accidentally click on something.
The thing is I do have a lot friends in the game. I really have more girl friends than man. Because the girls playing the game care more about what goes on in the game. Where the man don’t. They just do more rushing around.
But lets get to the real thing here. The are really nice and you get a lot of stuff from them. In public games I try not to do them. Because of the mindless rushing.
1st of all when one does open. 99% of the time people never say anything and just do them like it is their personal area.
It doesn’t matter what they open. Whimsyshire, Cow lvl, Vault, Vision, or hitting Goblin shrine. 99% of the time nobody says anything and just does them.
At one time in a public games when something like that open people would say something. Today if it happens it is theirs and it is like to bad to sad it’s mine.
In public bounties they want you to do your share. But when comes to the bonus stuff. They could careless if you join them.
Like I have said it is just a Video Game. You have to live with the good and the Bad. But today there is more Bad in the game than Good.
This is one of the reasons why (even perhaps the only one in the end, knowing that I really like helping other players), I switched to SSF, even if I already played mainly solo. I was tired of seeing players scattering over something other than bounties.
So now I only help people in the chat by giving information, and in game I stay in my cave.
100% true. Even before the days of different portals or even the jelly goblins, people would encounter a Bandit Shrine and just pop it solo. DUDE!!! Are you kidding me? Especially on T16. So lame.
However, a random goblin pack can be a bit difficult because you can blindly encounter them and it’s a lot easier to kill them all vs. typing goblin pack and waiting for the other players to arrive after all the goblins are gone. Then no one gets the goodies that the goblins are holding in their treasure sacks.
