Ethical dilemma... Do you report your friends who are cheating?

Should be a good discussion?

Keep it civil.

I understand the moral dilemma here. I think most people wouldn’t really hesitate to report a botter that they don’t know or was offensive to them.

But would you report your friend who just said he is botting?

Or does it depend on how close that friend is to you?

Your brother?

Where is the line drawn?

Where does our moral obligation to the game and other players end?

If your mom was botting, would you report her?

Is it out job to police the game for Blizzard?

I havent been in that position so I can’t be legit about it. But If its a really close friend of mine or a family memeber and i know forsure they cheating then I’d imagine I’d probably not report it. But I would strongly like it if they got caught by someone else lol.

Shoot them. :grinning:

Cheaters are cheaters. Doesn’t matter if they are friends or family.

Why report a tool (bot) to the Blizzard if they already know it is there? I do report tools I don’t report anyone personally. There is no option to report 1 person as far as I know. I did send some emails to Blizzard about tools.

Probably not, however, I would personally talk to them about it and how I strongly disapprove of their actions. I would attempt to dissuade them from continuing to cheat. If they chose to continue, I would simply not play with them anymore.

In a non-competitive situation where nothing is lost what does it matter? You just take note that the person is a cheater and a level of trust is lost.
If it is a competitive situation and i know the person i will give them a chance to stop before reporting them. Of course how do you know they stopped? They already know you will report them if they continue so it’s not like they are going to tell you. Perhaps just reporting it and let the chips fall where they may. Hopefully hard lesson in a game will result in a better person in life.

Were talking online where competitive matters.

Offline I couldn’t care less what people do.

Yes i know. In my opinion much of the online play isn’t competitive either except for those who care about bragging rights.

If you feel strongly about their cheating you should just talk to them about it. Convince them that they are only shortening their potential enjoyment of the game.

You report them and don’t say anything, you’ll hold that guilt of betrayal. Whether you can deal with that without effecting the friendship I wouldn’t be able to say.

Sometimes it’s best to just mind your own business and let fate play out.

Don’t do that directly, instead post on forums and make videos about the way he cheats.

Hoping someone who Even cares at Blizzard will make something about that.

Just to be fair, I don’t think there’s a right answer to this per se.

It’s all about the actual person, and weighing value / loyalty for most.

For others it’s a pure black and white scenario, you’d report your son/dad /brother.

While some might frown upon a decision, ultimately it’s a personal choice.

I would never snitch on a friend because, you know… Friend.

It would take more than cheating at video games to lose my respect.

I’ve never been in that situation because my friends are like me and agree that cheating in a video game is more pointless than selling ice to an Eskimo.

IF it were to happen though I would just try to urge and persuade them not to do it and warn them they could get banned. If they continue to cheat/bot or w/e in spite of my warnings and they get banned well then it’s there fault and I would laugh at them with a big fat “i told you so”

Ofc I wouldn’t snitch on my friend if he botted in a meaningless game like this one.
At most I would stop playing with them while they cheat if we were talking about an actual competitive game like Dota 2.
