Do you remember? (Vanilla D3)

In no particular order, before patch 2.0 (Reaper of Souls pre-patch).

Do you remember…

• Obtaining 5 stacks of Nephalem Valor before doing anything? Then recall the stacks falling off whenever you changed a skill or accidently moving a skill?
• Item Levels for items? Particularly, Act’s 3 & 4 having the best chance of dropping iLvl 63 items?
• When paragons were added and maxed at 100? Each level added primary stats, 3% magic find and 3% gold find.
• Magic Find and its cap at 300%? And how it was incentivized for every player in the party to wear it, as it averaged out on every player?
• The Auction House and the Real Money auction house? Remember the trick to cancel an auction by changing the date/time on your computer?
• Acts 2, 3 & 4 being nearly impossible (damage in inferno was extremely higher for these acts).
• The paradox of needing Inferno Act 3/4 items to beat Inferno Act 2?
• Monsters were able to be kited into Town?
• When attack speed on weapons and armor were reduced by 50%? Some could roll up to 18% on a single item.
• When Pick-up radius could roll 5-7 on a single item?
• Repair costs actually costing a lot of gold? (do you remember when gold was actually worth something?)
• When bosses would enrage or elites would regenerate their health if not killed fast enough?
• The affix, Invulnerable Minions? (an elite’s minions could not be damaged/killed).
• Life steal on weapons? And how overpowered it was at staying alive?
• When “Black weapons” were ideal/best?
• Monsters Powers 0-10?
• How a lot of rare (yellow) items were superior to legendary items?
• How insane the Reflects Damage affix on monsters was with fast attacking builds?
• When dyes were added, but certain colors were randomly sold from different vendors?
• When Marquise Gems are added, had to find the plans from random monsters, were extremely expensive to craft and looked completely different from today’s look?
• How near-impossible it was to craft a decent hellfire ring?
• How long it took to craft a hellfire ring (acquire the infernal machine plans, kill the guardians for their keys, craft an infernal machine using the keys, use the machines to fight the bosses, acquire the organs to craft a single ring).
• When “brawls” were added (likely to appease the fact that Blizzard “promised” PvP).
• When you could only craft a single gem at a time?
• When you needed to level up your followers? (their levels did not level up with you exactly).
• When there were several tiers of crafting materials, depending on your level?
• When Wizard’s had the “critical mass” passive?
• When you needed to collect/buy health potions?

I’d rather forget…

1.0 was horrid, but if I could, I’d get back to 1.08, when brown/green stuff wasn’t impossible to get like at 1.0, but didn’t rain from the sky like right now.

I remember it was excruciatingly painful. Beyond that I plead old age and CRS.

I’d second that. It would be nice to have some feeling of progression over longer period of time than the first 5 hours of a season, beyond which it is just a matter of finding marginally better version of an item that I already have, and have found 50 other examples of…

I still have an earlier edition on my PS3. Have to check the patch level, but pre-ROS I think. It doesn’t have the expansion at any rate.

But it does have the original 4 levels of difficulty, with 4 levels of Mats. lol

Very nostalgic.

That is what reminded me to make this list. I purchased a used copy of Diablo 3 of PS3 and its of the earliest level of D3 you can still play.

I think the highest version for the PS3 was patch 2.05. But you could not run the UEE version on that console. You had to port your save files to a PS4 if you wanted to run that edition.

A passive I will forever miss.

I will have to agree with that. That wizard build (CM Freeze build) is what put my first character to Paragon 100 when it used to have a cap.

And almost gave me carpal tunnel. lol

Ubers being a thing (and “a single thing”), and beating them a boolean condition: you beat them or not, so they had a purpose of being endgame instead of “choose difficulty: if you want to 1-hit them, you can”. That killed their purpose.

Fighting the real evil (yeah, even clowns like Azmodan) instead of things out of the dreams and memories of the nephalem.

@pja

Exactly. Not even a primal OP-whatever makes me feel really excited once I grow my character, and sometimes even before 70

I miss the days of Monster Power 10 and Crypts full of Wretching Mothers. Using a Zbarb to spin through and stir them up, inviting 3 friends and go slaying a huge horde so large the server was choking on it.

Yup I rem and actually think I had more fun back then.

I rem on a hellfire ring I crafted, Got perfect rolls on it…dont rem what main stat it had but rolled with CD,CC, main stat, and I had a random guy offer me 5k for my account since it rolled perfect. Almost did it, kinda wish I did do it just cause of how the rest of the game turned out.

I remember when the molten pre-explosion was no where near as visible or audible as it is now… So many times I got killed by it before they changed it.

I actually miss vanilla D3 because it was DIFFICULT. Diablo 3 is now a cakewalk in comparison.

You forgot one thing though: When all Wiz wore Force Armor build and dying only to DoT and then Blizz nerfed it to cap maximum damage reduction and got 1-shot at the Butcher lol

But no ofense. Some were fun, but some weren’t. The Elite-Enrage was entirely pure BS, I mean the “skeleton” thingy that more and more “sucks up” your HP ?, not cool. Also, remember this one: The spiderlings with Avenger affix lol., they’re like 6-7 in a pack (few more than regular elite pack) and the last dude becomes impossible to kill 1v1

Back then reflect damage DID damage.

Yes and I’d like to revert to Vanilla I only beat inferno after its first nerf. Was so close in act 3 then the nerf bat started and hasn’t stopped and the game has become a joke. Nerf it being either making something stupidly easy or items dropping so easily. Like finding Jah Ber Vex Cham Zod Ber Ist Ber Jah Jah Jah Jah in one hour of Diablo 2 playing.

Yeah, I remember alright. I didn’t pay to play, therefore, I could never get all the ideal gear to actually enjoy the game (as a casual player).

doing bounties to get regular keys to open up rifts then doing rifts to get greater rift keys.
