Been looking into getting the Necromancer DLC after not having played for a while, but €15 simply isn’t worth it even with the stash tabs. Could get a decent Steam game for less than that. So would be nice to know the discount history of this DLC so I can predict the level of discount and when the discount may arrive.
Often, every 2 to 3 months but may vary. Usually got 33% off for necro dlc (may vary). Last for 2 to 3 weeks.
Last time, I remember, was July, around independence day.
Blizzard won’t give advance notice.
Also, they may not put up notification on the launcher, in-game or home website. That means you may need to check out the Shop website often.
Good to know. Thanks for taking the time to post. I’ll probably be waiting a while then, unless they decide to put it up for 66% off(or 5 Euro), which is about what I think a DLC for an 8 year old game is worth.
wow, even the 8 years old basic D3 game has only 50% off. The necro is relatively new. The max. was 33% off. You might need to wait for a loooong time, then, perhaps after D4 launch.
If my patience was known, it’d be legendary.
Watch some of the streamers they give stuff away for free. My last 2 virtual tickets for Bilzzcon were given to me by WestMarch Workshop. Most of us will be in D4 while you are holding out for a cheap DLC in D3.
15 euro for DLC is a steal. What is that, the price of a movie? Quit being cheap and spend the dough.
Well that’s one funny thing about games. People always want it free and complain when there’s flaws in it or they don’t improve it to their liking. Guess they would rather spend the same amount on a 2 hour movie theatre or a ritzy meal.
The real bargain hunter would pay 20$ for weeks, months, years even of entertainment on demand.
I like to support the community, so I get a few keys and give them to streamers to give away. I was going to give him a key but saw that he hardly even plays the game, so no go. I am not sure how it is in the EU, but in the US $15.00 is lunch money.
15.00 EUR = 17.74 USD. Who knows how much it will be after taxes. If I remember correctly, I got mine for 14.99 USD. That’s around 16 USD after taxes.
I guess it’s more expensive overseas since it’s an American product.
A quick look at… Diablo III | Battle.net …shows UK pricing as follows…
D3 = £16.99
ROS = £16.99
Necro DLC = £12.99
Battle Chest (D3+ROS) = £24.99
Eternal Collection (D3+ROS+NecroDLC) = £34.99
Today’s exchange rate is £1 to $1.32 so converting to USD…
D3 = $22.44
ROS = $22.44
Necro DLC = $17.15
Battle Chest (D3+ROS) = $33.00
Eternal Collection (D3+ROS+NecroDLC) = $46.21
I think this sums it up well.
Many of us paid full price for all content. So we paid around $100 USD for the game and DLC.
Given we all likely have well over 1,000 hours, at the low end that is $1 USD for 10 hours of entertainment.
Sure some steam games will be cheaper than the $15 USD the OP would have to pay, but it will give at least 300 hours of gameplay if the OP wants to play all sets, collect them, and push with them. That bang for your bucks is not found in many games.
The euro prices actually already include taxes. It’s required by law.
You can get a key for about 10€ if you don’t insist on getting it through the Blizzard Shop.
Wanting a product cheaper doesn’t necessarily make one cheap. Rather than assume, you can just ask the question, lest you want to come off as an a$$. This is about value, hence my original request.
Perceptions will always vary. They’re also not relevant to the topic. Contribute to it or maybe don’t comment at all.
The request stems from an issue of my perceived value of the product, not affordability. It’s however not the topic. Nobody here is asking for free stuff. Do you have anything of relevance to contribute to the topic? If not then maybe take the unrelated commentary elsewhere.
It’s kind of you to give away keys to strangers. It’s as you said, that I don’t play that often, so it’s better if you save your keys for someone who do. Only put in 30 hours in the last week or so after not having played for years.
I would’ve denied the free key though if you offered, since we’re not friends and I can afford to buy my own stuff.
I’m aware of it, though there are possible rare complications should the key be rendered invalid by Blizzard because it was bought with a stolen credit card, which occasionally happens with grey market keys. There are ways to effectively negate the risk, such as buying from reputable sellers, but the risk will always be there.
When Blizzard revoke a D3 key, such as if you make a refund, you also lose any progress related to the key. E.g. buy the Necromancer DLC and make a refund and you’ll lose your Necromancer character.
It’s reasonable to assume the same will happen with keys revoked outside refund reasons. So I may be unlucky, so to speak, to unbeknownst to me sit on a ticking bomb and play the character for hundreds of hours, until one day the key is revoked and I lose all my hard work.
This won’t happen if buy the DLC through the Blizzard store.
The time you spent trying to get a “cheaper deal” and defending your post you could be enjoying the game. So yes, i stand by my original reply.
I am glad you recognize that. The grey market is grey for a reason and Blizz will revoke those keys when the stolen cards are cancelled, etc.
The pricing history of D3 is pretty straightforward.
D3 - Was $60 at release in 2012 is now $20
RoS - Was $40 at release in 2014 is now $20
Necro - Was $14.99 at release in 2017 and is still $14.99
Collections:
Battlechest w/ D3 + RoS is $30
Eternal Collection w/ D3, RoS, + Necro and some cosmetics $40
So, the game is already pretty heavily discounted from the original prices and the collections are a very good deal for new players.
The content above, goes on sale 3 or 4 times a year. You can usually count on it happening during the summer near the Steam Sales and in the Winter near the Holidays. There are other random sales too. They never announce them ahead of time though so you can’t count on the particular part of the game you want being on sale during a sale event.
Someone correct me if I am wrong, but can’t players who have RoS play the Challenge Rifts, which can be Necro, even without having the Necro class? That would be a way to play a Necro build - even though you are locked into whatever that challenge build is for that week.
Yes, you absolutely can play a Necromancer in the Challenge Rift, even if you don’t have the Necromancer DLC unlocked. However, it’s not a good way to experience the class because the builds chosen for Challenge Rifts are usually terrible and give no indication of what a proper build would play like.
