Make the game only for PC’s. Charge $40.00, give constant updates, give everyone their money back unless it was spent on the battle pass or transmogs and tell mobile gamers to piss off and get away from gaming.
Never going to happen. It is not that many people do not wish there was a non-P2W version on PC, it is simply that today, they just had installed 10 million copies of the game in a single week.
Somehow I do not think they are going to change their business model now.
Well D4 is screwed then. Yea I know about the 10 million I got some worthless stuff for it…
With that type of thinking we should still be on atari 2600 cartridge system because thats the gaming machine and PC are work machines not game machines
Hey the Atari 2600 is still awesome.
The mistake was releasing it on PC to begin with. These kinds of games don’t belong on PC, especially when they’re merely a broken port. Would have been happy have DI swallowed in the abyss of p2w games on mobile.
yeah well Blizzard was in a bind they didnt really want to do it but when you got everyone and their uncle all telling them the same thing that Diablo mobile was a utter failure they didnt want to hear it yet they couldnt ignore the fact it was falling apart
i mean only a week old and metacritic has it listed at 0.2 the WORST rated game of all time
just do a google search or whatever the pages of negative feedback for this game are everywhere
It should have been made for the PC. Lots of things are going to carry over to D4. Maybe not as aggressive, but more Lost Ark style.
Not gonna happen. NetEase is a mobile company. Besides, it plays better on my iPad than my PC at this point.
D4 will be PC and we’ll just have to wait and see whether it has predatory monetization or just cosmetics/dyes and maybe seasonal passes. I’m not optimistic, although I play Hearthstone battlegrounds and haven’t ever needed to spend money.
Lost Ark is pretty aggressively P2W. They put gearscore blocks that are difficult to overcome without paying for honing mats or falling behind. F2P players never see the latest content. F2P also can’t buy much on the market without paeons, which are RMT. They claim it’s to prevent flipping but it’s really a thinly disguised way to extract $ from players as they have to buy and reroll ability stones. Because it’s an MMO, F2P players get locked out of groups for lack of the “right” engravings and gearscore so there’s constant pressure to spend.
People are just waxing nostalgic for LA because D:I is so egregious.
The problem here is a bunch of PC gaming elitists feeling that Diablo is their franchise and needs to be made the way they want or that they don’t want mobile games invading the “purity” of the PC space.
Lets look at some facts:
- Blizzard originally set out to create a Diablo game for mobile… nothing more. Were they abandoning PC? No, they continue to provide free content for Diablo 3 each season and they’re working on D4.
- At Blizzcon 2018 when Lord Fluffy asked if the game was coming to PC, Wyatt replied no and got booed for it. Fast forward 4 years the game is coming to PC and ends up being chastised anyway.
- Is the PC space already tainted by mobile gaming? Of course it is! Android emulators like Bluestacks have been around for years now. The DI PC client is simply there to make life easier for anyone wishing to give it a try without having to fudge around with a third party emulator. F2P/P2W is already on PC whether natively or via emulator.
Simply put, the game was never meant for the PC elitist crowd. Blizzard made the mistake of announcing it at a convention primarily made up of PC elitists and now the PC elitists is making the mistake of thinking the game was meant for them!
Should it stay off the PC. Of course not! The PC isn’t just there for PC gamers. Some people who play the odd mobile game run those games on emulators on the PC too… especially to conserve mobile phone battery. I’m putting my hand up as one of them (Mortal Kombat Mobile f2p player for 2yrs+ now). I also enjoy my D3 on PC.
Is the monetisation predatory? Of course it is! It’s the nature of the F2P/P2W model. But don’t kid yourself that it doesn’t work. Governments take revenue from a small paying segment of the population to fund services that another part of the population will freely get. It’s done all the time.
Is the monetisation the most predatory ever? No! As a MK Mobile player, if I wanted to spend money maxing my roster and gear, I would probably spend $100k+ doing it too given many of the packs are based on a small % chance to get what is wanted. There are many other games of the same nature.
The most important thing is that people who cannot/should not be paying exuberantly high costs the game asks for learn some self control. Simply put, enjoy the free components of the game (namely the story campaign) and go back to D3 end game… apart from the pvp, it’s the same thing!
D4 won’t be nearly this bad but anyone expecting a fair deal better brace themselves.
Well then that was an epic failure in all respects. PC gaming elitists don’t want ports of mobile games any more than they want console ports. They want elite PC games without all those other platform’s icky mechanics.
Yep, and as I said, the game wasn’t meant for the PC elitist crowd.
The PC port was meant for people like me who dabble with the odd mobile game to pass the time but also play it on PC for either better ergonomics or to save mobile phone battery life.
Thank you Blizzard for being considerate to this player base who embrace multiplatform support for their games.
Will I play the game in the long run? Probably not. The end game doesn’t work for f2p gamers. But I’ll get some enjoyment out of a new Diablo story campaign since we haven’t had a new one of those since 2014.
What was said below I agree with
(Just quoting you because it is logical.
I hear you and trepidation or radar is a good thing but I agree with the post directly above in this.
It’s better to wait I believe. I prefer to be hopeful that they’ll keep it like the rest of the Diablo Franchise 1,2,3.
I see that if they are making money from Immortals - let them. If they screw with D4, they won’t get 10 million installations in the first week. They will have lost 30 years of loyal diablo fans no matter which version they prefer.
BTW I do not consider DI a true version.
It’s a mobile cash cow.
I’m expecting the post-purchase monetisation to be similar to what is in Starcraft 2 and Heroes of the Storm… a lot of cosmetics to customise your game’s appearance but have no bearing on how it plays. Some will be free from time to time but most will require purchasing.
But I’m gonna keep my expectations tepid in case they decide to go full DI.
Put it in a gambling hall then where id and credit score are checked at the door. Companies with this business model are preying on unaware parents and late teens under the gambling age with access to money. They should be hauled before the courts and this business model legislated out of existance.
well in addition to the 2 that have already banned DI the EU has 18 other countries on board supporting legislation of loot boxes
EA is currently under fire currently for it in FIFA and other franchises and you can bet Blizzard is already in their crosshairs as well
Hopefully something happens soon. This goes way beyond having a battle pass and cosmetics.
I mean, isn’t this just a case of them listening to the outcry of fans that people often blame them for not doing?
I don’t see any problem with it, people should just take into account that it isn’t actually a PC game. The zoomed in feel can get kind of irritating sometimes but hey, wouldn’t even have been able to play it if it was mobile only so I personally don’t mind.
They are not likely gonna do that with Immortal. I would rather them instead make a different version for the western audiences that don’t like pay to win games.
You have your free to play with pay to win version that is for those that love that sort of game play. And your free to play with a cash shop that only sells cosmetics and maybe a few account services.
