Agreed. I prefer D3 on console simply for the controller aspect and having that option on PC would be wonderful. It all comes down to how they handle the UI which they did well with D3 so here’s to hoping.
Sorceress needs more skills.
Meh, not really a fan of the radial UI elements. But agree it feel great. But then so did Dark Alliance on PS2 I believe and that Everquest one.
All the classes need more skills. Or alternatively, skill modifiers.
And a lot more talents.
Sad to see the game’s art and UI being dumbed down for consoles, controllers and mobile ports.
Bummer…
I want to hear the Diablo 4 team’s philosophy on Charms. I enjoyed the minor-but-noticeable power boost and interchangeability of Charms in Diablo 2. A dedicated inventory tab would be one method to accommodate them in the player’s inventory, for Diablo 4.
With that said, I really like the realistic art design of the environment and characters. The new item concept art looks superb, as well. I’m impressed.
And a huge for accommodating couch co-op on consoles. Thank you!
I see bracers are there. What troubles you that shoulders and belt are missing?
I haven’t posted on these forums in ages, just stopping by to say THANK YOU FOR CONTROLLER SUPPORT ON PC!
I always wanted it in D3, happy to see it included as I game on my TV sometimes and controller would make it possible.
I think that is gloves.
Belt and shoulder slots missing means fewer item slots, and fewer choices.
@Blizzard
Everything in this update sounds good to me. But I’m not concerned about the UI things since that was handled pretty great in D3 and you already hit the jackpot with the visuals.
I really hope this monster archetypes really affect combat the way that you described here (and not like PoE where monster types don’t matter, you just kill them with 1 press of a button any way).
You asked what we want to hear from next: Skills and Talents
From what we saw until now talent trees are just talent twigs. They are even smaller than D2 skill trees (yes I know talents trees and skill trees are not exactly the same thing but so far skills in D4 need no thought investment).
In my opinion a lot of ARPG players want lots of meaningful choices in the skill (talent) tree that define their character. Which is not possible if the tree only offers basically 2 choices - left or right twig.
Thank you for the update and keep up the good work!
Yep, gloves seems out.
Fewer choices isn’t bad per se.
So the quaterly update is that you centered the interface, reduced the color saturation of items and show one mob… wow that’s disappointing.
For future Blog Updates, I would be interested to hear more about things like a potential Attribute System and further information on the Active Skill Tree and the Passive Skill System.
In regards to the Active Skill Tree I was wondering if you have considered to make something like Skill-specific Skill Trees, like the ARPG Last Epoch has, where each active skill has its own skill tree with its its own skill-specific talents (some of them are just simple damage increases or cause the skill to have reduced cooldown per point, while skill specific talents change the skill completely like runes in D3) in which you can spend skill-specific Skill Points.
============================
Also, what are the developers teams thoughts on an Attribute System? Will there be an attribute system in D4 or has this idea been discarded?
Doesn’t has to be STR, DEX, INT (or Energy) and VIT (and Attributes don’t even have to be intertwined with items - aka requiring x STR to wear a certain armor), but people were really disappointed when then Attribute System in D3 got replaced by the Mainstat System and I think many of us were hoping for it to make a return, whatever form it takes (even if it just very basic like offensive attribute, defensive attribute, resource management attribute, movement/utility attribute).
============================
And for Passive Skills Systems I was wondering if there were other Passive Skill Systems you considered, instead of just the passive-skill-tree that currently is in the game. And do you intent to replace it with a different Passive Skill System in the future that allows for more flexibility on where you spend your points into?
Thanks!
Generally all the things you shared are the normal things that game SHOULD have. Nothing new.
For the feedback, u should watch how they made storyline in Wolcen with all the cutscenes and conversations every minute, it makes the story more complex and good to play.
Also you should focus on making that game a service-like-game like poe. If you will have a lot of money from D4 then Activision wont took the people out of it to different projects and in a year or two we wont stay with stupid seasons like in d3 that a toilet cleaning guy made after his work in a free time.
U should learn from PoE why their seasons are popular and unique, every season adds new mechanic to the game.
Sell animations and skins inthe ingame shop, get money from it! Kick Activision in their greedy a…
Dont let them take you to different projects.
Listen to people. Share more with them.
Make endgame more complex and unique. Make some buildings or things that we can rebuild or farm (wolcen). Just learn from your old Diablo 2, and your opponents. Copy from them if you must. Make this game a game to play for a long long time with no boring.
Also make the skill tree and skills with more variations, let us farm them and make them stronger, make skill tree with more passives or things that change the skill. Let people make their own builds, not made by u like in d3, every season one strong build and thats all.
Cheers.
Use bootcamp for Mac. Fixed
nor is it good, per se either. I rarely see less options as a good thing unless there is some sound reasoning involved.
Indeed.
I can see the reasoning behind limiting skill slots (even if I think 6 is too limited).
Such limits seems much less urgent for items. There has to be a limit of course, equipping a 100 items might get quite silly. But in this particular case 13 item slots seems better than 10.
One thing that sets item slots apart from something like skill slots or skill points, also is that each item slot are different.
Adding a belt slot isnt just increasing item slots by one. It is a unique item slot, likely with different affixes available.
Like a belt might come with affixes that affects your potions.
Will local co-op be supported on PC? I will happily buy two copies (PC and Xbox) so my wife and I can continue to play together, but it would be awesome if we could just play on my PC together, and not have split progression like we do now.
Also, just curious, will there be a cross-save or cross-play option, or is it being investigated?
Good news about UI, especially with given the choice to players with centered or angled panel.
-
My suggestion about UI: possibility to toggle “details” section (like in D3) for convenience to see more params immediately.
-
My suggestion about monsters families: maybe some monsters can jump on the player (like a leech ) and player should use specific skill (some “stomp” or “evade”) to take off this. If player want to go farm something in Cannibal’s lands- he knows there are “leechs” so I should pick “stomp” skill for more convinience or I will have more problems (which can be resolve another ways like party or specific items ).
Thank you!
I like these “more realistic” item icons. Also I’d like to see them big rather than small, like in D1 or D2, so you can see item’s details. Skill icons (mosaic) are very cool, please don’t change them.
Cannibals. So far all visual style, both of living beings and buildings/landscape in D4 is very cool. On these new screenshots a sorc got an aura which looks very good. Simplistic, stylish, without being an obnoxious flowered circle as in other arpgs.
And I like to hear when you (as the developers) say that monsters will act tactically, so that battles will vary. However, D3 or PoE endgame completely ruins this aspect, because everything is killed in 1 second, and if not killed in 1 second, then piled up in one big heap and killed slowly with aoe spells/skills. Complete mess! Not much of a tactics here, and visually it looks TERRIBLE. I really hope D4 will avoid this grievous fate.
