Diablo IV - Art Discussion

Diablo IV’s art is grounded in Dark Medieval Fantasy.

Dark Medieval Fantasy is very different from high fantasy like World of Warcraft. Dark medieval fantasy is if you were living the historical medieval period, and could cast spells and transform into beasts.

Diablo IV is dark and gritty. It is grounded in realism of Medieval period.

The environments are realistic, weapons and armours feel historically medieval and down to earth, with some fantasy elements. There are no gigantic shoulder plates and over-the-top armours that stretch the fantasy element to a high fantasy level.

The fantasy elements are grounded in the medieval setting.

Spells are toned down to earth as well and excess flashiness (of high fantasy games is not there), they feel like Diablo 1 and 2 spells.

The artstyle is not painterly like Diablo 3 and Warcraft, but realistic like Dark Souls and previous Diablo games. It feels like Dark souls made isometric. It feels like Diablo 2 made into a 3D game but with better combat feel and with horses.

TLDR - Diablo 4 is Dark and Grounded. It feels like it is set in the Medieval Period with fantasy elements that are rooted in realism. This is really exciting! I can’t wait for its release.

Some people are saying it looks all sparkly. That sparkly stuff is called water. The current demo area is in a wet place so you see often. But overall the game isn’t sparkly, it looks awesome.

Some people are saying there’s a spotlight on your character. That is called the light radius. This is a 3D game after all. The light has to come from somewhere. It is well done, imo.

Yes, and it will look much better on release. They are doing a good job!

Definitely agree with this. It feels right.

I played the Wolcen beta a couple weeks ago, and D4 looks a lot like that in its crispness. Looks-wise, they nailed it.

D4 has my seal of approval.

I’m loving the art style this time around! D4 looks great so far.

Dark and gritty - this is the art style D3 should have had.

Lilith’s first appearance is one of the most beautiful things i’ve ever seen.
And the looks of the game play is everything I wished for D3 to be

I am very excited with that art direction. This is what I wanted from d3 - dark, sharp and gloomy graphic style with desaturated colors. Nothing cartoonish. I want to feel like in horror game
