Sorry for my ignorance since I don’t play DI. But is already time for a season 2? Must not be the same as seasons in D3.
Diablo Immortal is predatory and their “seasons” are an excuse to have a monthly subscription charge on top of a monthly boon on top of a paid paragon reward path. Each Diablo Immortal season is 25-35days. The “Season” is related to the cosmetic theme and getting you to pay 14.99$ for it. (FYI. Games like Genshin, Fortnight, Division, Destiny 2, Conan, etc. don’t have seasons this short for this much.)
Better to be ignorant in this case. Diablo Immortal is a joke, and this patch just shows how much effort they are putting into a game to milk people for money. This game has hidden DAILY caps to what you can earn, P2W power sets non-scaled PvP (540,000$ per character to max out FYI), and F2P players are milked for monthly “seasons.”
They need some Diablo Immortal forums for feedback. Tired of the in-game survey they have.
Well, since you can buy season advantages, it makes sense to increase the frequenzy. More money for Bobby.
Aka. this.
$5 gets you the weapon and armor though. That is what I did - once I had completed the free Battlepass. I figured $5 at the end once I knew it was finished got me a nice little cosmetic set for my troubles.
Not sure I would pay the $15 price for a level boost and fancy portal which I think is what that gets you.
Agreed the Seasonal pass is just another way to get people to pay a Subscription, basically. I think the $5 one is pretty reasonable per month/35 days. $15 a month seems high to me, but WoW subs have been $15 a month for 17 years, so I guess they have data on how much people are willing to spend on a game.
The rest of the P2W for end game is abysmal though. Just charge a price for the game and have a sub/MTX bundle for cosmetics.
thats the problem though the moment a game starts asking for monthly payments it STOPS being FREE TO PLAY and is now a subscription based concept which by their own comments Blizzard has stated DI is NOT pay to win
it doesnt matter how reasonable it sounds it doesnt change the fact this FREE game is charging players a monthly fee
You don’t have to pay anything at all if you don’t want the cosmetics. You can still do the normal free Battlepass.
It is P2W. I think they promised D4 would not be, but I don’t think they said that about Immortal. Sure, they don’t sell “gear” but they do sell currency for Crests which get you Leg Gems which comprise a TON of the power in the end game.
The casual aspect of the game is indeed free, and $5 for the Season theme cosmetic is rational and ok if someone wants to do that.
The end game requirement to spend a ton of real money to get the gems needed is atrocious.
This not just black and white.
This is just false though. The $5 (or the $15 version) is for an optional cosmetic in an otherwise free game. There is no monthly fee.
yes its a common practice in big business but legality aside it still doesnt make it the most ethical practice and thats why people have such a major problem with it

Exactly. There are people who will keep paying for that chance to get the gems they need for upgrades. Of course, the fact that they pay for only a CHANCE makes it gambling to me. This is the aspect of the game I think is terrible.
The core game, and even a $5 (or $15) cosmetic bundle, does not bother me. It is free and the cosmetics are a “nice to have” and price is a lunch out, or less.
If they had stuck to the core game, set a price on it, and done the Battlepass cosmetic bundles, that would not have caused any controversy. It is an enjoyable game, honestly. It is the end game gambling/pay to win that sucks.

ive been saying that since day one if Blizzard had either A just made DI a full game you purchased one time and had an optional cosmetic shop or B went mobile and again only had items that were not game altering in any way the game wouldve been met with a lot more positive reception
but no they went the other way and tried to cash in on the mobile market despite all the negativity players and fans told them then have the audicity to act shocked when it didnt get full support
This is overly simplistic and completely inaccurate but I think it best sums up the point:
This update feels like a PC game company trying to update a mobile game.
These games are all about momentum: getting people habitually logging in and doing the same things with the same people every day. If that cycle gets broken it only takes a few of the right people to stop playing for an entire server to collapse overnight. (One of the many reasons this game has many smaller servers, helps offset the cascade.)
This requires frequent updates to keep the wheels churning. This bug fix patch should have been out a week or two after release and today’s patch should have been a content patch with many more to soon follow. Today’s news suggests the first significant patch will be approaching 2 months after release. That’s way too late for this sort of model.
honestly i dont see how any rational Diablo fan could even defend this game dont misunderstand im just as big a Diablo fan as anyone but the only people actually defending this are one of 3 types
1)Nostalgia buffs that are blinded by the name brand
2)Optomistic loyalists that are holding out in hopes the game will change
3)Trolls that dont care about the issue they just see a reason to sow chaos with false virtue signaling by feigning support for it merely to watch the discussion explode and revel in the conflict that arises

Sadly you get more than cosmetics from the paid Battle Pass. Otherwise it would have been reasonably fine. Still kinda predatory by abusing FOMO, but at least significantly less so - they really should learn from Halo Infinite on how to do Battle Passes in an appropriate way.
Done that way, Battle Passes are 100% fine.
(they last indefinitely, and you can simply pick which battle pass you want to buy, and progress on, at any given moment - well, at least from what I have read, haven’t tried the game)

This is what many people expected to happen as well. Blizzard is not used to running a real GaaS style game. Yes, they have WoW, but that is a monthly sub, so committing to a harsh release schedule is less important.
It will be super interesting to see how they handle Overwatch 2 as well, where they are committing to releasing patches not just frequently, but on specific dates. Pretty much cant think of anything that Blizzard is less fit to do, than delivering on time.
I’d like to think I fall under number 4:
- Pretty much assumed from the beginning that the game was going to be p2w, just from the fact that it’s f2p and was first announced for mobile, and as a result don’t necessarily care.

indifference only makes the matter worse after all it clearly shows you arent even bothered by the issue at all which is the kind of attitude Blizzard is hoping for
they will merely use it to maintain the claim that it is acceptable by the players since they arent speaking up
indifference is merely the forerunner for acceptance
Maybe so, it’s simply something I’ve grown used to from nearly every f2p game I’ve played and mobile games I’ve seen (as I hardly played those).
I am type 1. If this game still really sucks when D4 comes out, I will abandon at that time.
If this game still really sucks when D4 comes out
despite the claims of being launched in 2023 the way Blizzard handles things lately that could end up being another 3 or 4 years
after all Pathfinder in WoD was promised to be a matter of weeks but they pushed it back several times and before it was finalized 6 months had passed
and that was merely a patch to update the already finished game
D4 is a vastly larger project with a lot more complexity than just adding or changing a few lines of code to allow Z axis movement
But is already time for a season 2?
Seasons last 35 days in Diablo Immortal.
Season 2 (and associated Battle Pass) begin tomorrow at 03:00 (server).

After barely a peep for a month, word got out that the update would just be a handful of bug fixes because they didn’t get the content update done to satisfaction on time. It’s like going to a restaurant, ordering your food, and then a half hour later the waiter comes out to tell you they can’t make it because the truck didn’t arrive that morning. It doesn’t fly there and it won’t fly in a live service game.
These live services games have gotten a bad rap over the years because while the idea of a long term recurring revenue stream based on one platform sounds great for the game company, they’re actually very hard to pull off. As you mention, Blizzard has a few high profile titles set to release with this model but they really have never shown the logistical prowess to pull it off.
