Diablo Immortal - Not in Netherlands or Belgium

"On June 2, Hell is everywhere. "

Except if you live in the Netherlands or Belgium.

We know Belgium has very strict laws around lootboxes. But for the Netherlands this came as a surprise. For the Netherlands it’s forbidden when you can sell the content from lootboxes for real money (even though other games with same mechanics are still allowed here and blizzard didnt really want to put in the effort for a small group) . So I guess that confirms it being part of the game.

Sad, i was looking forward to this.

A vpn or a proxy should work, no?

Lootboxes in Immortal? Oh, wow.

Yes, it does. Although you basically won’t be eligible for technical support in case you have any issues with the game.

Good on Netherlands and Belgium. I wish my country had similar laws.

Also uh, I actually didn’t think the game had lootboxes?
It only gets worse and worse.

Can’t say I would consider that much of a downside though. Can’t recall ever requiring that service for a game.

It has “Crests” which give added rewards while running Rifts, but since the reward is not specific I would think it falls under the gambling umbrella.

Yeah okay, wouldn’t count those as loot boxes, but it makes sense that they do count legally.

If I understand the mechanics of it correctly. Legendary Crest makes the drop rate of a Legendary Gem 100 percent. Without the Crest the drop chance of Legendary Gems is similar to the current rate for Screams (around 5 percent chance of drop).

Im also from the Netherlands, but lost ark had the same issue wich meant we couldnt play it here. Dno about other games, maybe other games shut lootboxes off for the Netherlands?

People often give the games Fifa and Fortnite as example. I never played those myself so not really sure but apparently these games also have items that you can buy and trade to others.

Just having lootboxes isn’t a problem for the Dutch laws. since april 1st we have laws that allow online gambling.

I dont think there is a gambling aspect or p2w aspect to fortnite, you can mainly buy cosmetics and what you pay for is what you get.
On fifa apparently there has been a ruling considering it not to be
I dont really understand the differences between the lootboxes or companies, but by the look of it from the video in this thread i dont have the feeling i will be missing out on D:I .

Lol dont get me started on the flood of those commercials all of the sudden for gambling and gambling sites.

The resulting gem from a crest can then be sold for an in game currency that can be indirectly purchased for real money. That could be the issue.

Good on them. More countries should push back against these practices.

Doubt they would go through the trouble if they can no longer plunder your wallet.

Totally agree. What ever happened to the old “make a quality product and sell it”? Unfortunately, these predatory P2W mechanics aren’t going anywhere as long as people keep supporting it.

mmm yes that could be the issue indeed.

Yeah most wouldnt, EA apparently fought it in court and got it their way so found a loophole.

Anyway to me it also seems like a moneygrab, lure in whales and what not, i would wish more countries would follow and give a real pushback towards these companies.

From pretty much all reports DI is a quality game that is fun and feels great to play.

Unlike certain AAA games that get released in an unfinished state a few years ago.

Jyup. Just saying it can be a quality game and be monetized poorly.
