Diablo II: Resurrected Console Lobbies, TCP/IP, & UW Updates

Well I’m glad these points were officially addressed. Unfortunate outcome for TCP and modding though.

How exactly the AI doesnt register on 21:9, but registers on 16:9 (or 19:9 for the matter) when is hit offscreen?

You guys realize people will test these things, and if it turns to be a lie, how bad this would sound?

Shouldn’t the characters look similar to the original ones then?
They now look like they’re 20 years older and their bodies don’t look human anymore.
And they don’t even look like 20 years older version of themselves, for example the Assassin is like a completely different person from another continent. And the paladin didn’t have that much hair and Nicki Minaj’s lips.

They also look too wide.
Maybe some of the artists from VV tried to mimic the old characters using a 16:9 screen and didn’t realize the original game was in 4:3? I’m honestly wondering this, because no one looks that wide without being obese.

That’s an odd assumption to make that I purchase an expensive, wide-screen monitor for one purpose, or for one game for that matter. I use it for a variety of games and especially for work. My issue is specific to this game…if I can play other games on my native resolution of the monitor, then this 1 game I can live without if it won’t support it.

To me it looks like you’re saying the monitor purchase was pointless. Not being specific about either the monitor purchase or the game purchase being worthless threw me off.

My apologies.

That seems to be the case. IMO, you can’t sync a modded multiplayer game without porting over your game files to each player on the server. Since multiplayer isn’t supported, mods will be restricted to single player. However, it’s possible, that in future, that there will be a multiplayer cloud for mods approved by blizzard devs. That would require someone check every line of code, then approve. It’s a pipe dream, but it’s doable.
I speak as an old guy modder, and not as a dev.
So far, all multiplayer mods have been relegated to setup switches. Even these must be carefully implemented, and play tested, prior to release.

Nope, I don’t care enough. Ahhh my morning dose of comedy, thanks.

is there IP severs like old Diablo2?
And is server add soj by itself ?
will you add diablo clone drop as many anni in same game as number of players in the game?

need more details please

We need ultrawide, it’s a new game, it deserves to have 21: 9. i don’t like black edges.
I feel cheated

because when the game was made… in 2000 the original resolution was 480x680

this is what was shown on the screen, stuff could happen beyond this… but you could not see it… then resolution was increased to 600x800 in LOD, again because monster were programed to react a certain way, this made no issue

the problem is how the game is coded… how monsters are coded

the entire game was designed to take place in a certain area, when not in that area nothing happens to that area.

now a monster might have an aggro range of lets say “10” and when u made the game the window width was 4… and then it went to 6… and now its 9… well widescreen pushes it to 11…

and well if said monster has an aggro range of 10 and you can now see it and attack it at range 11… its not programed to respond because it never NEEDED to respond at that range but it was impossible to hit it at that range

if the game is coded with the idea that the play area would be X big. when you made that bigger it cuts into the excess “safety” area… ultrawide screen goes “beyond” that area where the game is programmed to work.

now it all depends how its coded it could be there could be a value you could change to quickly affect all monsters aggro range… or the game could be coded when u need to go into each individual monster and re-write its code.

but we know that they are just porting the old code with some bug fixes and changes are this is NOT an easy fix.

not to mention this affects almost no one… it ruins pvp, and it would likely take a TON on work to get working… and likely cause an insane amount of uninterested issues… its not worth it…
if it was a new game you could program it from scratch to do this… but they aren’t programing the game from scratch, they are fixing some old bugs and adding a graphical overlay to make it look prettier… the original game itself IS running underneath… its running 21 year old code, and there is only so much u can do.

There have been lots of threads and comments about all of the things addressed here. There has also been extensive discussion about adding a shared stash to Classic. I have only seen arguments against from people who don’t actually know what the term “Classic” means. Everyone who understands the issue considers this a must for Classic.

Stop ignoring us.

You don’t remove important game features in an effort to try to stop some pirates. It ends up pissing people off and encouraging piracy and boycotts. Also, I have an issue with them lying about why it’s being cut. That’s kind of a big deal to me and proof the company is still crummy.

Exactly Sunder, thank you! I actually didn’t even bring up and to be frank, forgot about the bottom and top of the screen being the same for everyone (unless you go 4:3, or 16:10).

First off. This is a PC game. So be grateful to get anything.

So how do we prevent joining a game that has a known griefer in it since we cannot choose what game we want to join? On PC, you can see what names are currently in the game that you are going to join.

So modding is restricted to “changing values”? Does this mean the json files that were hyped up as affording all those new asset modding possibilities actually can’t be modified, only the txt data files can?

Well… this is another huge step backwards, because now we can’t add custom assets either. As far as I can tell from the beta, models (for missiles, monsters etc) are now hardcoded to data rows unless you dive into the json files. If the json files can’t be modded either, making any sort of mod will be impossible.

But at least you won’t shut down classic D2 modding, not that anyone will buy classic D2 when D2R is also for sale, so it’ll just bleed to death.

What’s wrong with asking for something that will improve the experience 1000x? It’s also not like we’re asking for something impossible, they’ve done the majority of work already to make the game run and play very well on consoles, it’s a small amount of effort left to make it a long term sustainable multiplayer experience. I don’t understand your logic of ‘being appreciative’ when this is something that can be changed and drastically improve the experience for many players.

I get the whole “beggers can’t be choosers” mentality. But we are paying customers. We aren’t asking for free stuff here. Just looking to get the full game they are charging for.

They made a promise to bring us the authentic Diablo 2 experience and they aren’t delivering that to everyone buying. So for a lot of would be console players it’s you do this or we don’t pay for the game. A lot of people have refunded the game because of this.

Don’t make a promise you cannot uphold and you won’t upset your would be player base.

His gatekeeping statement would only be true if the console game wasn’t the same price as on PC. It’s the same price for the product, so it should be the same product.
