Diablo 4; will we have something to spend gold on?

In D3 I have amassed a bunch of gold for no reason at all. It just sits there stockpiling into the trillions.

Anyone know of anything in Diablo 4 we will get to splurge on?

It’s too early to say. It will probably end up like D3 gold at some point in time.

As of right now? Not much is known for what players could spend gold on, besides the repairing gear and/or buying from vendors. Anything more than that is anyone’s guess.

Possible gold costs however:

  • Unique vendors like the Occulist
  • One of the costs for respeccing
  • One of the costs for endgame activities (like Nightmare Dungeons)

I really just want something to use it for because it seems redundant. Maybe let us use gold to buy mats for re-rolling etc?

A good question. Although, in Diablo 2 gold has uses because it has several goldsinks as requirement; we buy potions, scrolls and items from vendors. While in D3 goldsink is optional as part of endgame; to empower Greater Rifts only. It doesn’t have to sit in your stash if you care for some efficiency or more rewards.

In Diablo 4, I imagine we will have something similar to D2 model and will have real goldsinks instead of an optional makeshift model. We can see something about having to use crafting non-stop to get our build going. I think cost of managing a build can vary between end game and at the start; it can diminish or increase.

A good option would be something along the lines of the gamble merch in Diablo Immoral which uses gold to gamble for the chance of a legendary. (Kadala with gold instead of blood shards)

I see the D4 team pushing that endgame mantra that NDs (D3 Rifts) and Tree of Whispers (D3 bounties) are endgame, but why is the community adopting it? This isn’t an endgame. It’s just part of the usual game and character progression.

According to the developers, Nightmare Dungeons and the Tree of Whispers are endgame activities and/or systems, among some others, hence I refer to them as endgame. This will continue until D4 is released, and I see something that suggests otherwise.

That was my question - why you do so when no one considers Rifts and Bounties in D3 endgame?

Why wouldn’t I? Diablo 4 isn’t Diablo 3.

Because we already know what these systems are. There is nothing end-gaming about them.

Well, that’s your opinion. As I already said:

So until I see otherwise, I’ll continue to refer to them as such.

I get you do what the developers do. I hope the developers don’t suddenly decide to commit Seppuku.

Yeah, whatever you say. Just don’t have a mental breakdown over people calling nightmare dungeons and tree of whispers endgame activities and systems. Good day.

Anyone can call anything however he wants. If you do call these an endgame however you aren’t helping Diablo 4.

Rifts and Bounties clearly are endgame in D3… They are just bad. Thank you, Power Creep.

How the features work is obviously not what make them endgame. Their placement in the progression is.
In D2 killing Baal is endgame. That does not mean adding Baal as a lvl 10 boss in the D4 campaign would be endgame. Obviously.

Btw, just saw that a new D2R patch was announced. Random world events as endgame!
D2R is going to beat D4 before it even releases…

something to spend gold on?

Maybe we can use the gold to payoff other people’s student loans.

I stopped reading here.

It should be used to buy the cosmetics and other things they will sell for real money, but I think we all know that’ll never happen
