Would D4 be able to have full control of how you see the environment or stay with the tried and true method of the bird’s eye view perspective from D1-3? I know D3 has a zoom by pressing Z, but it’s not the same as having full control of viewing your environment.
Diablo 4 will still be isometric (bird’s eye view), just as the first three games were.
I was curious about that too. But looks like Oblivion answered that question. Too bad, imo, I think that could really open the World of Diablo, errr Sanctuary.
Prefer it this way, I’m sure there will be a zoom function, but not worth playing that way.
I was relieved to see the isometric camera after hearing rumors that Diablo 4 was going to be played as a shooter / looter in the Overwatch Engine. lol
The isometric camera, to me, is what makes the game unique compared to other Blizzard titles. It would have been a shame if they removed it. If you want the other camera angles you can always play their other games.
Don’t world of warcraft my diablo!
Except that their other games suck.
Wolcen tried it, and it was awesome. Turning the camera on its axis in an area you’ve played through dozens of times made it seem like you were exploring a brand new region from scratch.
Too bad they were too stupid to keep it.
Be interesting if it was an option that you could choose in the set up menu.
I was fortunate enough to play the D4 demo many times but was thinking the same thing as the OP.
D1 and D2 had a forced overhead camera because they didn’t have the technology to emurse into full 3D at the time.
Now in 2020 you would think they could pull it off…
I was hoping for a full third person emursive D4 but we get another stuck overhead setup.
I want a wow replacement, but I guess we just have to wait a bit longer.
I would so abuse the zoom function on some demons (Lilith, Andariel, Every Succubi etc.)
*Pervert hat off
I wouldn’t mind the option to rotate the camera.
Neither a zoom feature that I can go from Isometric to D3 close up, and everywhere in between.
But 3rd person or, worse, 1st person… I can’t even describe the horrors…
The whole game would have to be designed towards those perspectives, it’s not just a matter of changing angles. And designing it for those perspectives would completely divert the game form its genre/style.
I’m kind of on the fence with the ability to zoom in or not. I mean…so many of us take lots of time to customize the appearance of our beloved toons with dyes and transmogs. But, if we’re always stuck with a distant view…what’s the point? I want to zoom in and see my efforts close-up. But, the wide angle perspective is also what makes Diablo…Diablo.
True. 1st and/or 3rd person perspectives can work really well in ARPGs, just look at Borderlands series. But the thing is, the game has to be then designed with that perspective in mind and not only does this change gameplay mechanics, it also changes the entire feel of the game. As you said, it is way more than just the viewing angle.
I’m glad D4 is going to be isometric. That means the game will retain its feel.
No 1st person, as it obliges you to use it as a tactical advantage. Only classic isometry, for one and all.
I’m happy they kept the camera and didn’t make it a stupid wow replacement, because the only reason I don’t play wow is the camera…
Change your name to the Necromancer, holy cow bringing back the dead 3 years later.
You don’t play WoW in isometric view?
I play mine zoomed way out. The only difference is the camera rotates around me instead of being in a fixed position like Diablo. I couldn’t imagine playing either game first person mode, you’d never see stuff you needed to see.
at least it zooms out a lil when leaving town heh
still feels too zoomed in tho
The world boss zooms out to a more acceptable distance for people with large monitors.
I think the zoom might be capped due to a pvp advantage ultrawide players would have over wide.
