Apparently skills in Diablo 4 will be found in books or something like that.
At some point of the game you would be able to have all skills maxed out, we don’t have any information on how long this could take.
But if everyone at cap level would be able to have all the skills maxed out it would be kind of weird.
I think they should implement like a experience factor on the skills, like in poe/skyrim. The more you use that skill, the more exp you gain on that specific skill or specific group of skills. Example: using fireball would increase you experience in fire skills.
And then the player would only be able to increase the level of a skill if he has enought experience to upgrade it.
This would add another layer of meaningful choices but would still let the players to change their builds by grinding experience in the new skills they want to use.
Maybe a collection of 4 complimentary skills level up together on some innate system of EXP. So you’d have your regular skill point acquisition system, but on top of that you’d also have sort of a ‘paragon-esk’ leveling system for your skills, divided into branches.
Using a skill from the cold branch would increase levels of all those skills… ect…
It’s just a fun little means of another form of HOW you get to end goal, and I can appreciate that.
Cut down on a little bit of the grind, farming skill scrolls.
I like the idea ! In fact, i really like every idea that make the skills have diversity in itself. You can modify the skill with some Skill talent and/or with Legendary Power. I made a big topic about an idea that I have if you want to read it and give me your feedback !
I can see some problems with having to lvl up skills to their intended power - for one, it is an annoying gameplay experience.
But still much better than having no respec cost/limit at all.
We dont know that.
Also, talent trees will likely be generic enough bonuses, that a single talent tree setup, can support multiple skill builds.
The most important place to have a respec cost/limit is the skills. Because they are the most specialized part of your build.
It will require more points to reach skills in the end of the tree. So the skills in the end of the tree will need to be more powerful and we will end with a bunch of useless skills that are just pre-requesites like in diablo 2.
The idea of a hierarchical skill system is to assure that the player can make a build around whatever skill they want to. It would be harder to balance and make sure that every skill is viable in a tree setup.
I haven’t played too much of grim dawn yet, idk if the tree skill system surpasses this problem or not.
Well in my interpretation i didnt connect the active skills to something
Just to the progression of the tree overall so you can just level passives until you reach your desired actives
You could also just make other skills because as it is now, there is also a lineup from “weak” to “strong” in some way, i think
You can place them all in the top somehow and make then progress downwards
