One thing I hated about the old games and many games’ interpretation of magic ( Skyrim etc ) is how boring the animations look when casting magic.
There is no “Flair” and magic doesn’t feel impactful.
It’s like you just point and shoot. Trying to treat magic like a bullet from a gun but without the feeling of recoil or impact on the hands and arms.
Kingdoms of Amalur is a game that shows the best and the Worst.
If you use the Scepter it looks terrible just pointing it and shooting there is no style or pizzaz.
If you use the Staff on the other hand you see this amazing combination of attacks you feel like there is weight in the animation.
In the Video link below you’ll see the slow windup time and the impact of the cast which feels like an explosive torrent of magic released from the player. Feels great, just like a Barbarian using a great sword and seeing the reaction on an enemy unit.
For example Magic in KoA
I really hope you make Magic feel more impactful and not just again Gun magic and go pew pew.

It wouldn’t work in a fast-paced combat style like D3/D4.
I rather impactful attack/spell than fast cast/ attack gameplay like PoE that casting spell looks like Someone having a nervous attack and shaking.

FINALLY someone brought KoaR to the list
Well the one thing I LOVE in KoaR is the potion, gem, and weapon crafting… Probably potion crafting wouldn’t be a thing for Diablo universe tbh, the whole “herbalism” skill isn’t for a game like that, BUT I really DO hope they bring up some kind of gem/item crafting similar to what KoaR did
And ofc. perhaps do an upgrade (with runes and whatnot) for it
As for the spells, yes, I kinda like that but instead of the focus being primarily on damage, would rather focus on strategy and synergy (or a good portion at least)
They don’t have to make it fast-paced tbh… I mean we saw things like Ashava and that boss and whatnot, heck there weren’t even spammed dungeons (the closest thing was the one with Fallens, but doesn’t matter, if those things get a simple ability like say berserk when near death, later in game, then don’t need to add like hundreds, or any other “swarmer” mob for that matter tbh :P)
ESPECIALLY with a tag-system, regular mobs could get “special” without having to be elites
Torchlight 2 does it for some of its spells, if you watch the cast animation for staff for magician you will see them also doing a cast combo animation swinging their staff around.
Lost Ark is a good example of Fast paced game with Great spell animation.
Notice how she isn’t just going Pew Pew and casting shots, but her entire body moves as she casts. Either flipping in the air, or jumping up and pushing the ground. The Animations give a huge visual impact that looks fantastic.
Poe Isn’t impactful, its just spam.
Should be sent straight to Junk Magic Folder.
