Diablo 4 last class could be a mercenary

And I have a strong feeling that it could indicate which trope the last Class will have

We have no Paladin, faith based warrior

We have no Amazon, jav and spear

Also

Diablo 2 mercenary

  • rogue… D4 class

  • sorcerer…. Diablo 4 class

  • barbarian… Diablo 4 class

  • desert merc…??

Based on those 2 points

The last class could be A desert mercenary, the Diablo 2 act 2 mercenary. He uses spear weapons and has holy auras

It would be the same one that helped us kill evil in D2 but further down in his development

He’s not limited to spears anymore, he now mastered the uses of shield while wielding his pointy sticks

Like the Greek hoplites https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/51ZBbTJH-JL._AC_.jpg

His akinness to Paladin wouldn’t stop with auras, he would also have faith based Ranks like “The spear of destiny” which is a Holy empowered spear attack and Phalanx which is a defensive/offensive rank/skill which invoke clones of you to generate a wall

He’s the only d2 mercenary class not present in Diablo 4 as a playable class and he has both archetype that are missing so far

Ofc his class name could be tuned to sound cooler like “desert Fang” or something more Casual friendly/archetypical so people know what he does just by his class name. For example, the Swiss Pope guard started as mercenaries, they are spearman… so Holy&spear, you could call him “Guardian”, it sounds cool

The thematic could be that in Diablo 2 when they accompanied us, they were young and green, now in Diablo 4 they are battle hardened veterans

It could be canonically Paige, Emilio, Narpheet, Wulf

Excellent summation, I just would like you to extrapolate on the D2 mercenary thematic.
As far as I know the Rogue and the Sorcerer are classic archetypes in novels, role playing games, movies and has been introduced in D1, the Barbarian will make its 1st appearance in D1 Hellfire.

A desert fighter is something and a spearman something else, as much as both can fit together, there’s many different kind of fighters who used spears / polearms through history.
I’m not against the idea, but more details on the archetype’s elaboration would be nice

You bring a good point, as we might not have a holy class, the D2 merc’s aura would be a must.

i cannot think of a mainstream name that would fit the existing cast
maybe mercenary is actually the best shot
or nomad comes to my mind when i think of desert warriors but that’s another kind of people

Yeah it’s kinda hard but I’m sure it can be done

Ofc there are some basic and boring options like SpearMaster but we could hanchor it in logic and flavour

I mean, the Pope has a special guard called “the Swiss papal guard” which were at their origin just a bunch of mercenaries hired by Pope Innocent Viii

They are basically spearman

You could just call him “Guardian”

yea i thought about something like “guardian” too
i guess it’s fair since there is also the “rogue” and the “sorc” which aren’t really tribes like the barb or the druid

From some of the Blizzcon art and the campfire silhouette on the D4 page that looks like a Paladin to me.

Yeah we’ll probably get a “sword and board”, “knight in shining armour” type of class next.

This topic is specifically about a class specialized in pointy weapon that can use a shield…

Not to mention

https://ibb.co/F6hY5Sg

Looks a lot like the silhouette

https://ibb.co/4ZyNyWJ

Paladin, Cleric, (Holy) Knight, Templer, Crusader, Horadric-Knight, Monk, Pope/Bishop just names around a holy class.

Would love to see the old but updated d2 Paladin. Because he feels rly holy, compared to the crusader in d3.

But the templer merc from d3 was cool too. And he still have to find out the truth about the history of his order. Let us hlp him / do it as him.

We will see.

But when the holy class will be the fifth … we will not see the necro/full summoner class to release. Druid is 4me what i know about him atm a half-summoner.

Both cool classes. But i’m happy about the barb, druid and sorc, because these i prefer to play. D iv <3 maybe we will know more about it in a few month.

The term “sword and board” means weapon and shield so i’m on topic. Any more problems?

Quite sure it was just the monk that was added in Hellfire?

Whatever the last class will be it will be awesome, new game… sure some old classes… but they will all “feel” new in D4

Except it’s missing a coif and gauntlets and sword and board is more of a staple than jav/spear user. Sorcerer was also a class in D1 first.

Why not an Iron Wolf class? It fits the silhouette better and fits the sword and board motif.

Officially. They made a Barb and a Bard but were not playable without a hack.

I would like a Warlocky type of class over a Paladin easily.

D1 sorcerer was an iron wolf

Why are you talking like I missed act 3 merc and sorcerer when I clearly mentionned it in the main topic

But we already got sorcerer

I have to agree, most of diablo 3 classes felt boring and bland

That’s why I’m sad that they went for Diablo 3.5 for immortal and used those boring classes instead of diablo 2

Further the story of the Canon classes of the beloved title of the franchise

Can you give an official proof of that?

I did not know that. Would have liked to try it.

D1 sorcerer became the D2 summoner and there is no link between his lore and the iron wolves.

I never said they are the same person

Just that they are intended to be similar

Both are dark skin with Chainmail and red fabric made into the same character design

They aren’t the same person but they intentionally made them alike

All the D2 merc are available after defeating their D1 counterpart

Rogue after blood raven

Sorcerer(Iron wolf) after summoner

Warrior(barb) after Diablo
