Same. Would rather play true SP. Seeing a bunch of others running around ruins immersion. If that’s the way it is it will probably be the first Diablo game I pass on.
Sounds like you’re on team offline. We shouldn’t feel like gods nor should we be aoe’ing down 100s of demons at a time. We also should never run into people outside of our own games unless we invite a friend or group of friends into our party. (we should have minimum party size equal to how many classes that are in the game or 8 players max IMO)
How will games push boundaries and be innovative with so many closed minded people? Give the feature a chance. There might be more at play here that we don’t know about that involves running into other players.
D1 was about a group of heroes, same for D2 and as for D3 we don’t know yet, but it’s most likely a single individual (naphelem)
About your concern, listen to the Blizzcon systems and features panel, it’s on youtube. This should calm your biggest concern.
How was diablo 1 about a group of heroes? I’ll give you a hint, it wasn’t. It was about 1 hero. 1 hero that was tainted for diablo 2 which brings me to my next topic D2. It was a 1 man show as well. It had multiplayer yes but the entire storyline evolved around 1 hero. It was just duplicated for each player.
Pet peeve, not an MMO, they never said MMO, they just alluded to a shared world that will be limited in terms how many people you will see. Good news is that outside if local events, world bosses and possibly towns, you will be alone until you complete the campaign in any given zone.
Except lore in D2 clearly states that the rogue, the warrior and the sorcerer were part of a group that took on the evils of Hell. Although the Warrior is the canon class that took the soulstone and drove it into his head, all three were there.
Just imagine during the most emotional epic moment of the campaign, you see me running in the background with my name lit in neon green above my head, opening a bounty cache. Epic moment ruined.
According to the developers, running through the campaign for the first time, you won’t see anyone else except for whomever you may be partied with. So you wouldn’t have to worry about somebody else ruining an epic moment for whatever reason (unless you’re directly partied with said person).
That is the worst case scenario, it’s still bad to not be able to choose if you want to have your experience ruined by random strangers who does or does not fit the lore/atmosphere.
Another epic moment could be after you just beat your own GR record, shivering, wanting to stand still for a moment to acknowledge your effort.
As a long time Diablo player, I thought the MMO-esque style of D4, however it works, sounds pretty interesting.
Honestly, after seeing many comments here in opposition, I want Blizzard to keep it as is with this news. Blizzard already addressed this I thought and said that there is some freedom to be solo.
Its 2019 though. Diablo 3 was nice to solo at times, but with all the variables that isolate players now, I think it’s time to move on from an isolationist way of playing.
Adapt and move on and accept that whatever D4 is going to have will be pretty good. Don’t go crashing it back into 1995 for the rest of us please!
It depends on Blizzards monetization scheme. A large part of free to play tactics is exposing players to other players so they see the f2p loot they’re wearing. This, in turn, compels you to hit up the cash store. Thats why PoE has those hub areas.
Maaan, those wings look cool. WOULDNT YOU LIKE TO HAVE SOME TOO?
I’m sure that isn’t the only reason this game is forcing you to play with other people. But Diablo 4 isn’t a faux-MMO game just because the devs think its a good gameplay model the fans will enjoy. Lets not be naive.
Impossible to happen? Ugh
I get what you are saying. You want to be immersed at least for your first play through of the campaign. Makes sense!
It might be a goal from devs but it only work on the people who are looking at it from that perspective anyway. Spending $40-$60 on a game thats free to play out of the gate is really a big deal either given how we all get access to PoE
Play it this way or dont play at all? That doesnt sound like a very modern perspective either. Bit of irony in this I think. I would prefer to play solo myself and dont think its unreasonable to support both. Being able to make choices is nice.
I’m with you. I dont like full priced games that also adopt free to play monetization schemes. Its the very epitome of nickle and dime.
They flat out said you can solo the entire game. At no point are you required to join a group for any activity. Of course you will come across people in public areas and events, you are not required to join a group nor communicate with anyone.
The whole purpose of that is to expose you to the whales.
It the distinction between a small private company and a massive public corporation with multiple products and huge overhead. Nickle and diming you require you to make small purchases to play not have them be optional.
