That is not comparable
- Diablo 3’s road of success was based off of Diablo 1 and 2 (I shouldn’t have to explain that because it’s named Diablo 3). Many, if not all Diablo 1 and 2 fans bought Diablo 3 thinking it was something it was not.
- The year Diablo 2 released was 2000 (LOD in 2001). There were literally less people on the Earth, not every family owned a household computer, and the world was less connected. Blizzard obviously didn’t have the Chinese market either. The world population in 2000 was 6,143,493,823 and in 2019 it is 7,713,468,100. 1.6 Billion person difference.
- Diablo 3 was released for multiple platforms such as Xbox, Ps4, PC, Nintendo Switch.
- “Do you guys not have phones” Sarcasm- I’m sure Diablo 4 will be a great success if it’s like Diablo 3
- Blizzard asked for Feedback from the Community because Diablo 3 was not well received (Cancelling their planned second expansion)
- (Diablo 2) “Its lifetime domestic sales climbed to 1.7 million units, for $67.1 million in revenue, by August 2006.” So, speaking of sales, Diablo 4 won’t do fine if you have the strong majority of the game wanting changes from Diablo 3.
- Last point is every streamer invited to stream at Blizzcon 2019 for the reveal of Diablo 4 have made several videos in regards to what Diablo 3 did wrong and what should be improved (Feedback just like this forum post) such as Quin69, and MrLlama. Noxious, Bloodshedd, and Xtimus have also made several comments about what they dislike about Diablo 3 and what should be brought back from Diablo 2.
Here is the link to the Leak that was reported 4 months before blizzcon:
Bullet points are:
- Diablo II Remake/Remaster was planned, but they later realized that it would be much better to give the franchise a complete reset and put majority of the fans requests into 1 giant package.
- Music is going to harken back to Diablo I and Diablo II. It will feel very very familiar to the old-school Diablo fans but also have it’s own unique twist to it and sound that is catered specifically to Diablo IV
- Paladin, Barbarian, Sorcerer, Amazon and Druid are planned for launch with more coming later. Blizzard wants people to feel like this is Diablo II all over again but in a completely new era of the franchise. Blizzard were also debating whether to include the Druid or Necromancer class at launch of Diablo IV. Blizzard decided put the Druid for launch of Diablo IV and Necromancer for later, since the Necromancer was released already for Diablo III.
- Blizzard learned a lot from their Diablo III and Reaper of Souls mistakes/lessons and used the feedback to create and design new and improved systems for Diablo IV
- Art Style is VERY dark, gory/bloody and gritty - think Diablo II days mixed with Dark Souls and Bloodborne but much more modernized obviously. The new engine is able to create atmospheric visuals and dark tones that immerse the players. Picture the world of Sanctuary as if it was in the Dark Souls or Bloodborne universe. Super dark and gothic.
