Hi,
First of all, I love how Diablo 4 is presented on blizzcon especially the cinematic and tone of the game.
As the game is in early development and blizzard said they need feedback for the game, I would like to give my ideas, which may resonate with many of you.
Most critics discussed around here includes:
- the streamlining of atk and def,
- itemization
- MMO like features, etc
I mostly agreed with the critics towards these aspects.
But I can’t find any discussing skills elements effect on enemies. So let’s start the discussion…
For now, D4 have
The “chilling” effect from frost damage, which makes mobs affected by frost damage continually till the bar is filled then the mob is frozen. Definitely an interesting mechanic.
But will other elements have specific effects too?
It’s just lazy if elements is just another color on the screen just like in D3.
Some ideas I can think of are:
Fire:
burn effect basically same bar filling mechanics as chilling, but the end effect is the enemy is lit on fire with DPS and armor reduction. Enemies in melee range with the burning mob also get dps and fill the burn bar.
Lightning :
At certain percentage link 2 enemies close together and stun them, or the damage dealt varies from high to very low (D2 style)
Earth:
Bone crack, percentage to break limbs:
broken arm = can’t attack/ reduced damage significantly.
Broken Legs = add legless model/animation and/or slowing movement.
Wind:
Chance/ bar filling that charm/ confuse/ mobs melee attack may miss and hit other mobs.
Poison:
Dps, non lethal.
Etc etc.
Furthermore mobs should have resistance towards certain elements, not fully immune like D2 Hell mobs. but rather still get damaged while immune to the debuffs.
e.g. chilling immune for mobs in tundra biome, frost damage - 20%.
What do you think?
Share your ideas to (maybe) make D4 better.
cheers
