I recorded some footage of D3 and edited it a bit with Movie Maker, by making it darker and putting some of Diablo 2’s music on it.
Maybe you find the change of atmosphere that this created enjoyable:
Tristram Cathedral with the ‘Monastery’ Soundtrack from D2
Tower of the Damned & Azmodan Fight with the ‘Hell’ Soundtrack from D2
Ruins of Sescheron with the ‘Harrogath’ Soundtrack from D2
Bonus: Festering Woods with Ambient Sounds from Diablo 4
Thoughts? Feedback?
Would you have liked it if D3’s Soundtrack would have been more dark and ambient? Or would you like that we could import our own music files into D3 and D4?
I do hope Diablo 4 will have darker and ambient atmosphere.
Like it was in Diablo 1 or Diablo 2, but Diablo 1 was creepy, so my opinion is Diablo 1. Make it terryfing!
But I do not like the idea of importing your own music files.
Me as well, however from what I have seen so far, I am disappointed.
D4 is rather grey than actually dark/black and the colors are overly bleak and de-saturated with too much focus on brown.
It is like they overcompensated for D3’s overly colorful style.
D4 is not dark like D1 and also the colors are more desaturated and bleak than in D2.
Here is a comparison between D4 and D2: https://imgur.com/L8S9aHJ

In D3 it could have lead to everyone being able to change to the old D2 music in case they didn’t like D3’s music.
D3’s music is much more epic and orchestral, rather than being dark ambient music, if that makes sense.
Or maybe we could have been able to unlock the old tracks from D2 by doing some challenges.
I have a problem with too much sound input at one time, so I usually play with the music off on all my games. I get a bit of sensory overload, and it makes me anxious.
i think this game is far too old for me to care what music is playing in the background. when it was new, i did give it a listen but i dont remember when i stopped caring about it and turned it off. I find listening to my own music on a youtube playlist or whatever more satisfying while endlessly grinding.
not to say that the music is bad or having in game music on is equally as bad but its something i do when i grind any game. after a while it loses its appeal and i find myself hitting that mute in game bgm.
Oh yeh, Urzeal is by far the best song of the entire D3 soundtrack. It has a special place in my heart. As far as I know there are several versions of this song.
I can understand that.
I think with Ambient Music this is a bit different, at least for me, since it kinda blends into the background but still contributes to the atmosphere, if that makes sense.
The Orcestreal music of D3 does not do this very often, since it kinda goes into the foreground.
When I paly games, I also sometimes turn it off when it gets too much for me.
