Diablo 3 physical copy woes

I know I’m super late to the game but wanted to vent somewhere as my ticket to Blizzard resulted in a form letter telling me to go to the boards.

I bought a physical copy of D3 when it first came out, beat it in the first week as a Monk since I could trade in a broken marketplace.

I put the game back on the shelf and fast forward to last week. I install the game, launch Battle.net and play through level 13 and get capped.

What in the heck?

I guess they degraded a $60 game to a “free to play” version with level capping?

I’m beyond miffed as I have a disk, a code, a box and a receipt of purchase!

Curious if anyone else got burned like this and if they were able to get any sort of accomodation?

I can’t see ever buying something from Blizzard until it’s at least 5 years old and then, maybe then, see if it’s worth it.

If you register the CD key in your Battlenet account, it will perma unlock the game.

Make sure you log in with account the key was bound to. It sounds like you’re trying to use a new account. The keys are single use only, they can be bound to a single account.

I only see two Characters for you on the Americas Region and neither one of them is a Monk. As @Kirottu said, make sure you log in with the Account information you used when you originally installed D3.

If your Monk is still there and just not showing in your web Armory Profile, you may need to enter a game with your Monk to refresh it. You don’t have to play the Monk, unless you want to. Just enter a game, Leave Game and then you can play whichever Character you want.

You do not need the D3 CDs to install the game. Run the Battle․net Launcher. Make sure you log in using your correct login information. Under Games, select D3. If you get an Install button, click on that (without your CDs) and it will install the latest version of D3 for you. When you run D3 you should find your original Characters.

You may not have Reaper of Souls  or the Rise of the Necromancer  unless you’ve already purchased those too.

Note: The information above is assuming you registered your D3 License-key when you first purchased your physical copy. Blizzard would have that information on file.

Good luck.

His profile also shows zero time played as a monk.

They’ve also deleted their Witch Doctor and Wizard. And they created a Necromancer, which is currently Level 23.

So, we know they’re no longer playing the Starter version and they have the Necromancer Pack.

They never confirmed whether or not they are playing on a different Account than their original purchase.

But, if they’re happy, I’m happy.
