Diablo 3 no longer functional on MacOS

Diablo 3 won’t launch on my iMac running Catalina. Clicking the “play” button in battle.net does not launch the game. The recent server maint / battle.net update broke Diablo 3. I used the trouble shooting checklist provided by Blizzard with he following exceptions:
I am not changing my OS: that’s an unreasonable request.
There are no drivers to be updated, mac users don’t play that driver nonsense thank god.

I’m also using OS Catalina 10.15.8 on my iMac (Late 2013 Model) and, like yourself, D3 will not launch at all into the game mode from Blizzard’s D3 Homepage. When I click “Play,” it’ll revert itself back into the original blue icon of “Play” again after about 10 seconds. And, I won’t ever get to play the game at all during that time lapse… I’m also at a loss of why this is happening. Maybe it’s a bug with Blizzard or Blizzard is mandating that we need newer computers/more recent operating systems. At any rate, I won’t get to play D3 until this issue is resolved. Buying a new computer with a recent operating system is a waste of money for the privilege of being able to play D3 because, the newer Blizzard games (i.e., D4 and D2) require PC Operating Systems and won’t run at all on Macs… I’m also irritated with Blizzard and hope that the company rectifies our bug issues… Thanks for posting this because a lot of others might be having these same similar problems with D3.

That’s exactly the description of the problem. The D3 game has not evolved to require any system upgrades, so it’s important the devs correct the problem.

Some of the apparently more expert users have found the problem is minor, such as appending an Info.plist file in a text editor (which doesn’t work), or upgrading a Visual C++ package in their (windoze!) OS they’re using within Boot Camp. Conclusion: Blizz D3 devs can and should correct the problem without further delay!

C’mon Blizz Devs. Almost a week, no action. Take five minutes to correct your and return the game to full function with Catalina users. YOU CAN DO IT.

I’m also not being able to play after this last 2.8 update, I have a iMac Retina 27 Inch 2017 (QuadCore i5) running macOS Catalina 10.15.

As mentioned above " When I click “Play,” it’ll revert itself back into the original blue icon of “Play” again after about 10 seconds".

I have not found a valid fix yet, Blizard should be addressing this issue and chime in to let us know what’s going on, and when we can expect a fix.

I am constantly crashing on M1 Max running OS Sonoma 14.7.3. The game is tough to play with so many crashes.

How curious. We using ye olde Catalina haven’t heard of that one before.

I reported my issues with Blizzard itself, and they stated back in an email to me that they “take the matter seriously and are” reporting my problems “internally.” Either they fix this bug issue with their latest D3 update or they should let us know exactly what to do so that D3 becomes operational for us again.

I also reported to Blizzard that I’m running on OS 10.15.6 (Catalina; (iMac)) and that if I need a newer/different type of computer like a PC, then to kindly let me know. Blizzard has not addressed this issue for me.

Chances are that Blizzard won’t correct our playing issues at all. I’d send Blizzard an email directly addressing your D3 problems. Maybe they are too log jammed with these types of complaints but you might get a definitive answer whether you will be able to play the game again at all on Macs.

Thanks for your post!

Update, I have been reading up on this issues on several forums for the last week, here, Redit etc and have not found any fixes yet, or any input from Blizzard (like that’s anything new), we are on are own guys.

So, yesterday first thing in the AM I reluctantly update my OS from Catalina to Ventura witch is the max OS for this older computer (iMac Retina 27 Inch 2017 QuadCore i5 16Gb Ram).

I hate with a passion being pushed or forced into updates I do not want or need, even worst program obsolesce, especially on older computer as newer OS are written for newer Mac and often come with loads of issues on older Macs, that said, (after a day and half of troubleshooting this new Ventura OS install) Diablo 3 is now functioning as it should form the launcher, to my biggest surprise had no issues with that one, I pressed play, and it did as it should, so, I’m back in game.

For those who can update there OS, it might be something considering.

PS: I was also getting warnings form Discord lately that the app was no longer supported on Catalina and to update to Big Sur, so I went all the way and maxed out the OS, I still have cold sweats from trouble shooting this OS update.

“when you do get in, it crashes” … how did you even “get in,” and on what OS / hardware?

Running OS X 10.12.6 “Sierra” here, and after installing both Battle.net and downloading Diablo III, which took some time, I’m in the same situation and cannot launch Diablo. When I click Play, it goes to “Launching” for 10 or 15 secs, then reverts back to “Play” with no error message.

However if I attempt to launch the game directly from its folder, I do get an error window, stating “The application requires macOS 10.13 or later.”

So that appears to be the reason (for me at least) why it won’t launch.

I find this highly frustrating. I’m the customer, and I want to play the game on hardware that was fully capable of playing it at the time of release. I have the disc, I have the box it came in, let me play the game. I will not upgrade my OS on this system, I’m running this version for a good reason, and again, I am the customer.

Well as an update, apparently never mind all of this. I didn’t realize I was relegated to the starter edition, which I’ve already beaten at 13fps on my lagging Windows laptop. But apparently that’s ALL I can play because EVEN THOUGH I OWN THE GAME DISC and Reaper of Souls, I can’t play them. Because the activation code has already been used.

So what’s the point of even having the game discs? I certainly won’t be paying any MORE money to play the games I already own. What a disappointment.

You don’t need the discs. As long as you’ve registered the game with Blizzard, which you had to do to play it in the first place, you can reinstall it through the Battle․net App.

Note: You must use the correct login information, email and password, that you used when you created the Account with your copy of the game.
