Just because one does not like something does not inherently make that game bad or horrible etc…D2 was great in its day…if released today as it was, it would flop horribly. Yes people still love it but how many new players are just starting out?.
D3 Has ts quirks but it is certainly not a crappy game. Gameplay has been smooth, combat smooth storyline well written, graphics and cinematics superb. It’s better than most every other game I am interested in playing currently available.
D4 will not be D2 and will not be D3. It will be D4 and we will have a learning curve for character development, etc…It will have its own storyline and cinematics for us to judge. I like what I see in the previews, but that does not guarantee a phenomenal overall game . As I said before, if the remade D2, the only comparison it would really have is the storyline. Everything else would be changed to fit modern architecture, better graphic support and content. It would as different from the original as FF7 and the recent FF7 remake. Those here dedicated to D2 would be sadly disappointed as it would not be the same exact game as released. If you want to play d2, go ahead play d2 its out there and still running, just don’t expect patches, updates, new content. etc… Its software at EOL.
I imagine both D2 and D3 don’t get a ton of new players on account of them just being old. If they were brand new today they’d be getting a lot more players(though both would be getting criticized for looking outdated for a 2020 game).
Personally I’d like for D4 to do with the series what Resident Evil 2 remake did for that series: A modern game that sticks to the core principles that made the older games great while not necessarily needing to have every last mechanic be the same.
I think a lot of game developers are realizing nostalgia is hot right now. A lot of people want to go back to the days when games were about being great, not about being micro-transaction platforms that were also sometimes pretty good games.
Note my previous remark that the game would fundamentally be changed using new engines, and updated graphics. It might be good still, but it would not be D2
Unless I missed something it hasn’t been confirmed yet. While I WANT to see Diablo 2 Remastered/ReBorn until we see it officially announced I am really not getting overly excited.
Diablo 2 is still great game, even if it’s 20 years old.
Old doesn’t mean it’s dead. Blizzard should really take a look back why D1 and D2 still is a success game.
D2 was better in some aspects than D3, while D3 is better in other aspects.
The most notable difference would imo be itemization in which D2 was miles and miles ahead of D3 (although to be fair, D2 also had decently severe balance issues, but it was still much more interesting and diverse in its itemization, and item progression was also much, much better).
D3 certainly is better in Quality of Life stuff, but in regards to itemization, RPG Systems and the sense of Character Progression and Development it is not really good imo.
I keep playing Diablo II.
At the moment I’m at level 77, I faced many challenges, I died a few times, all in an epic way and trying desperately not to die (in Diablo III I don’t even care). The red screen when invoking Diablo, the green screen when suffering poisoning, the trembling when defeating bosses, the dispute over items on the floor, diversity, negotiations (I have negotiated runes already) the dark caves (neither Diablo III nor Diablo IV come close), the very cool PVP of the low lvl (I still don’t have items for the high level PVP), the long paths without loads, without horrible interruptions of irritating lines from insignificant characters, the total and full immersion that only a classic can provide.
Diablo II was the last good game in the franchise, including Diablo IV which is just a patch for Diablo III.
I’m very afraid that Activison will continue on the path of eliminating all good games from Blizzard, Warcraft III felt, Diablo 2 will probably feel too.
I hope they don’t go ahead with this project to kill Diablo II, they already have Diablo IV to do that.
What a load of BS there is no trading in D3 because Blizzard made items bind to account so you can’t trade outside of the game and allow players to set up a black market
And I’m sure there are plenty of people that would buy the perfectly rolled primal for their build
Just because you can’t trade doesn’t mean people wouldn’t if it was possible to trade
And if there is no interest in trading why are people coming in the forums regularly to keep asking for trading back
It wasn’t a glitch for a start and you said
When in actual fact you could grief players
I am yet to get an even worthwhile primal for any of my characters
It’s this concern right here that I went and downloaded the installers to D2 months ago to store away, so I can install the original version if the remake turns out bad. I don’t want to have happen to me what happened to others with Warcraft 3, where the originals were replaced by the remake and you can only get the original version if you own the CD’s now.
Really? For a seasonal character? haha fat chance. That would be sad.
What you are doing is nit picking the tiniest detail when we were talking about generalizations over the life of the game. Also, someone else said there was NO Griefing. I forgot about the griefing glitch that was patched extremely fast until someone pointed it out. Sue me for forgetting something that lasted for about a week 8 years ago. The point was and still is, the game currently isn’t even worth hacking anymore.
You are arguing with me, arguing with someone else, that you clearly disagree with, but cannot even bother to understand the context of the argument:
Primal what? A primal is just a perfect version of any item you probably already have. That’s my point. You can get a non primal version of anything. All the primal does is add perfect random stats. They still aren’t great. In fact it’s pretty underwhelming even when you do get one. They may look neat but they aren’t adding a lot more then a decent ancient (if anything at all). If you can’t find the gear you want after a week in the season you aren’t really trying.
They are asking for it for D4, because they assume that items won’t suck as bad in D4 as they do in D3.
People buy items on Diablo 2 ladder for seasonal characters, and they reset the ladder on a regular basis there too.
When it comes to this sort of stuff, don’t under-estimate how willing some people are to throw away their money,
I guarantee you people would do it in Diablo 3 if it were possible.
It doesn’t take long to find people complaining about griefing in DIablo 3 even years after launch. Usually Hardcore players who had other players kite mobs into them to get them killed(not the same thing as the glitch that was mentioned, though)
Where multiplayer exists, griefers will find a way even if it’s not as bad as the PvP gankers in D2.
Again, I was arguing against someone else’s point about no griefing. It was not my own. But steve framed it to look like it was mine because he’s trying to play gotcha with my comments, out of context.
D3 is a better game.
D2 was better for trading, however trading is what ultimately made it such a pile of garbage due to the hordes of bots.
So i have to give it to D3 hands down.
imo and in the opinion of many others…
D3 has better gameplay, D2 has better itemization.
D3 has better QoL features, D2 has the better story and atmosphere…
etc.
Look, you already know you’re going to be disappointed by Diablo4.
Imagine Diablo2 played exactly as the devs intended it.
No PvP outside of town games.
No Baal runs.
No cow runs.
No maphack – just gotta run around the place confused.
No duplicated/botted items, such as runes, meaning the sorceress is essentially the only one that can teleport.
Only playing the entire game from start to finish
with other players
competing for loot the entire time.
Taking a few months break and discovering you no longer have an account.
You’d beat Baal on normal difficulty by yourself before never playing again, right?
Diablo 3 was different because they enforced control over their game and took the power away from players to play as they wanted. Also it didn’t have any real PvP. Also you could only have four players. Diablo 4 might just give you 8 players again, but you can bet that we will not have the freedom to let the game take on a life of its own.
