Diablo 2 - Dead is Dead

Funny enough i have seen many forum posters using Diablo2 logo and bashing on D2.

Yes. Even before half-way, gaining a level was a feat of strength, especially as a melee class doing a blind build. Reaching “the ultimate destination” was not guaranteed or a matter of time only. If you hit a brick-wall and couldn’t progress (but it was never impossible), you tried again, you started over, or you quit.

Of course D2 has been solved to oblivion, and you can pull-up step-by-step instructions to take the path of least resistance, but the original intent (and appeal) of offering “a most harrowing trial” should speak for itself, no matter how much players could trivialize it due to the flexibility of D2’s customization.

Yea, people can get that anywhere but they want to muddy Diablo’s waters with that gameplay style? Why, to satisfy the whims of a bunch of sprouts? I think these kids are more willing to appreciate a decent challenge then they’re given credit for (in a game or elsewhere). Just like they appreciate when you don’t talk-down to them like subhumans (“What did YOu do today?” type malarkey), but rather you routinely say things that are well-advanced for them so it spurs their intellectual curiosity.

Yet your post gone. I wonder why?

I like how 3 D2 activists just keep supporting each other and replying in a circle, making it seem like most of the posts are D2-supportive while there’s not really a lot of you.

Just some food for thought from a retired programmer. If you think that any new release of D2 would be anything like the original game you have a sd day coming. New game engine designs and combat systems used would end up being more like D3 with the D2 storyline. There may be some implementation of rune words and perhaps charms…The questionable things would be the skill tree (though they have incorporated that model in D4). You would probably lose trading as that was also removed from D3 early on for a variety of reasons. Graphics would be improved but would resemble the palettes used for D3 and D4. Ultimately the D2 lovers and fans would be disappointed as even a remake would not be the same game. Yes Square Enix has done well with the FF7 remake and incorporated the original storyline, but its not even close to the original game as far as gameplay goes…The same would be true for any remake of any classic game to an updated engine. For those that love D2 , stay with the original game and enjoy it and all it has to offer. Those that love D3 the same especially as season 20 comes to an end and we prepare for season 21.

Unfortunately I agree. They are caving in to the pressure from the Diablo 3 fanboys who are pushing for the removal of immersion, character identity, and depth.

“D2 activist”? More like “classic game enthusiast” of which D2 is one of countless many. (We are bound to have some radically different tastes anyway, so you can take that generalization and shove it!) But so what if we like timeless gameplay, and trying countless permutations in our games. That can take any number of forms beyond D2. Why so adamant about D4 lacking that element. EDIT: That is most likely unfair, you want a great game to play and not a tool only, sorry. You’re just concerned it might be rough, awkward, full of features “for tradition’s sake”, not smooth at all, yea? For what it’s worth I hope D4 is silky smooth up to the final boss.

That’s NOT what the authenticators were for

The Blizzard Authenticator offers an additional layer of security against unauthorized account access on up to three Blizzard accounts.

Used for protection in the RMAH

This just proves you weren’t here at the beginning
there was a time that in act 1 the back gate could be opened and monsters let into town to kill players

You are forgetting the non existent drops and the RMAH in D3V
no d2jsp because trading was done in game

Because, wait for it… people were hacking other peoples accounts.

I was here at the beginning. I remember the glitch. I was in the beta and have the Banner Sigil to prove it. Also the RMAH receipts. I made some good $ back in the day.

For 5 minutes. We are talking about now. Example, there is still people using third party sites to trade and sell goods for Diablo 2 because there is STILL interest in such things. And there isn’t in Diablo 3 because there is no trading but also because there are no items that anyone would purchase anymore anyway? What item is there in the game that you can’t get in Diablo 3 in under a week? Who would possibly pay any money for any items NOW in Diablo 3?

I remembered that. That was disastrous for hardcore players at that time until Blizzard quickly patches it up.

If that’s the case then Diablo III Fanboys are going to be in sad shape indeed as the simplified game play is about all Diablo III had going for it just like WoW and unless they further simplify Diablo IV those fanboys won’t be able play it at all :joy:

This is the D4 forum. D2 belongs in the D4 forum, Diablo must be saved (or it will just become generic crap like D3).

Another D2 fan here, there are plenty of us but on your side? Take is right, this is the pot calling the kettle black.

Most D2 players aren’t on this forum cause we’re tired of going in circles with D3 fans(? do these exist?) that have no idea what a good arpg is.
