Im posting this here because in the Diablo II Resurrected forum wont let me post unless I own the game.
I contacted Blizzard support to see if a physical copy is included with an online purchase for Diablo® II: Resurrected. Unfourtunatley it is not, but that I should mention this in the forums because it would be nice to have an actual box and not just a digital copy of the game when purchased. “I’m afraid we do not sell physical versions of our games through this website, and to my current knowledge we have no plans to offer physical purchases” ~ Razerium

I was encouraged to post this here because he said the dev’s may read it in this forum.
Its not only part of the nostalgia, but nice to have an original box as part of the presentation of this excellent game.

What do you think this is going to accomplish? No, really.
Step 1: Make a box
Step 2: Print out D2:R artwork of your choosing
Step 3: Tape artwork to box
Step 4: Profit.

I would love a hard copy but digital is the way of the future, at least in the initial release. It’s much cheaper. Maybe later when the game gets a little stale they might release a physical copy.
What was the last physical game Blizzard released? This shouldn’t have been a shock or surprise.
That wouldn’t really make sense as it’ll incur additional expenses to create the physical copy.
Should they go with physical copies, they would’ve done it the D3 method: CEs and physical copies available at launch and then moved mostly to digital sales as years go by.
Though I do agree with OP, I would love a physical copy of D2R if possible as I’ve collected every single Diablo game’s CE and Battle Chest.

That’s my point: it will incur more cost if they chose to go with the physical route long after their initial years available for digital only.
We used to get more for our money. Now people defend getting less for more money. It’s strange.
I love having my D1, D2, D2LOD and even D3 boxes on display. Half-Life 2 box just sitting there beckoning me. I love looking at the box art and booklets from time to time. This is the only reason I like consoles, at least you get your physical copy.

games were also more simple, games nowdays cost a butload more to make and we still pay about the same for them as we have for a long time. i dont really see the problem moving slowly to only digital. there is not too many left that dont have internet connection, but i would not complain if we got a physical copy either. Maybe if they made new CE.
At the time, the devs would have considered the game just as complex as devs do games of today. Development has evolved with technology and games are more complex because we have the power to make them more complex, although I would say the games are 10x dumber to accommodate a broader audience. They cost a buttload more to make but they’re making a buttload more than they used to. It’s all moving in tandem so there’s really no excuse for screwing the customer out of a physical copy.
Don’t make excuses for greed bro

Did anyone who is into the box sets also get all of the paperback Ultimate Strategy Guides, from Brady Games at the same time. When I first stated playing D2 the Guide helped me out a lot. So did this website The Arreat Summit - A Strategy Guide for Diablo II. I am not into collecting boxes, but the books were nice.

not excuses but i could see why they are moving away from physical, id guess they see their sales how many % are digital nowdays and making decisions from that etc aswell.

Yes! I have the D2 strategy guide. Admittedly it’s quite warn due to the early years of D2 haha what a blast. The game felt so special and mysterious because every answer wasn’t readily at our finger tips as they are now. I loved the feeling of discovering something new from a video, guide, magazine or even demo disc. The golden age of gaming

I think the last box I bought was Legion CE.
Last box I bought was TurboTax. LOL

That’s exactly what I mean. To not only to display them, to honor the time when they originated. Something accompanying the works as part of its presentation. Its more than just a downloaded product, it honors its time and deserves that kind of respect in my opinion.

Nearly all their games have physical releases.
Just not the remasters.
I agree with OP they should do a physical release though. I bet it would sell decently.

If you think for one second that Blizzard is not going to sell actual Physical copys and come out with a CE for D2:R I have a nice bridge to sell you. They are going to ride this little cash cow as far as it will take them until D4 rolls out.

Well the only reason I posted that is because of a response that I received about it when I posed the question to Blizzard:
"I’m afraid we do not sell physical versions of our games through this website, and to my current knowledge we have no plans to offer physical purchases for players for this game. If you feel that should be introduced, like for the nostalgia reasons you mention, I’d recommend you mention that on the forums where our devs will be taking their feedback from: General Discussion - Diablo 3 Forums
Don’t hesitate to get back in touch if you have any further questions or concerns!
