Should seasons just simply take less time to keep an engaged audience? It feels like S26 is going forever.
The leaderboards and “season gimmick” seem to be the main attraction to playing seasons. Maybe less emphasis on the gimmick (rarity of drops, etc is a whole different debate), and more emphasis on quickest to top of leaderboards. Give the top 10, top 100, top 500 players some special title/achievement/award, and move on!
De-emphasize playing seasonal, and emphasize playing the game!
As a long time player of the Diablo series, I can tell you, I never cared one bit about the leaderboards on D2 because I knew they are all botted anyway. Well, it is the same here… so… who cares?!
They can just set it up so it is automated and rotate through the past popular seasonal themes. They just have to update the season journey rewards.
Whereas I do believe that it would be better to have 90 day seasons, I doubt Blizzard is interested in coming up with new gimmicks every 90 day. Personally, I doubt they have it in them.
OTOH, something that would be more interesting, and easier from Blizzards perspective, would be to run with 90 day seasons while alternating between an old season and a new one.
This would have the advantage of keeping up player interest, and would be less work for Blizzard (which I am sure they would be very much in favor of - D3 is on life support, after all.).
I would not be surprised if after D4 launched the D3 seasons become even longer. Or they just might recycle everything without adding anything new. I would much rather have them working on new content for D4.
Like they said for D4: “providing ongoing storytelling and new content for many years to come.”
If content can be churned out fast enough, sure, why not reduce season length by one month. However, that is also not the only cause for length - there can be, and often are, unforeseen circumstances like pandemics, injury, losses (in multiple ways) and so on which can directly and indirectly impact development not to mention the usual stuff like sickness, burnout, and just plain holiday/vacation.
I’m not sure there’s a “team” on D3 - if there is, perhaps one or the other can pick up any slack… but if there is not, and it is primarily one person coding the changes with some artistic accessories added here and there… and since D3 is in “maintenance mode”, it seems wasteful to apply any resources to it, especially now that both D:I and D4 are either out or coming “soon.”
Whether a fan wants something means little to the bottom dollar. Unless, of course, that bottom dollar is in a stack of hundreds of millions… so, you know, get 5/6th the world population to buy a new license for D3 and they’ll change their tune instantly.
I’m not even 70 most seasons after a week. Depends on the season, sometimes I’ll grind out 70 in a few hours, but mostly I take a leisurely stroll through the campaign a little bit at a time.
imagine if they somehow add a new rare or very rare goblin and when killed it opens a portal like greed realm and the last boss drops 1 random drop theme from any random past season? It would make even the most boring season like 26 a pleasure to play for more than two weeks just trying to find something good that you’ve got in another season
Imagine if the meaning on the word was understood? SEASON… hmmm. Season, every 3 months. Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter … So two months on and 1 month down to test and push out the new update. the last 2 weeks downtime. just hire me already, ill get this game sorted out. lol
