Deckard Cains Death D3

Did you agree with his death being an ingame cutscene rather than a cinematic, Was Maghda the right person to finish off one of Diablo’s most well known characters, One of the Nephalem’s main sources to unknown information, he helped us so much and had so much knowledge…

And yet…He was slain…in a Diablo 3 in game cut scene…No Cinematic NOTHING…
Do you agree with this? Should they alter that part of the story for Diablo 4? Should Cain come back some how? Not as a ghost but as himself?

Or should they create an awesome cinematic of what happened to give it more impact, probably too late this still makes me sad 8 years on :frowning:

We Only seen Tyrael Showing Leah how he fell to earth (Which was pretty cool) Still unsure about this overall and lore wise though, Malthael can wreak havoc on sanctuary yet no angel can help?
The lore in Diablo is so awesome and soso important to many of us so it is very sad to see such an impactful character through all the games pass like this :frowning:

Cain is dead. They did a nice, elaborate in game play of it. No reason for a cinematic. We had a cinematic of his funeral. Cains last act was to reforge the sword.

If they want to bring him back as a ghost, so he can LEARN and interpret along with you, that could be an interesting tact in D4.

But, no, they shouldn’t retcon him back. He died, and was cremated.

Cain is dead, long live Cain.

I do agree with this as in my head he is dead.
Would you want a cinematic or did you think he had a awesome death?
Sure reforging the sword was great, but that 40second game rendered cinematic was really bad for the lore. Just my opinion

Cain is dead, so leave him alone. Maybe in D4 the old Horadrim at the grave (Lorath Nahr?) might be the new narrator, if we even have one. Don’t expect anything new for Cain in D3.

I agree with this but I would love to see some sort of insight or maybe a flash back cinematic or the man at the graves interpretation of what he was told about happening as a nicely rendered cinematic, I feel its the least Cain deserves for all he has done, perhaps a little about him in the 1st cinematic after the Lilith reveal cinematic.
Hey…might even see him and his death in the Diablo Netflix series

What kind of a dumb question is that…
I don’t agree with many things, and yet they… are what they are…
he’s dead.

Pretty sure there was a funeral for him in a cinematic.
What did you expect? An epic battle?! Him putting up and epic fight and taking down many demons in the process?!?!

Considering D4 takes place decades after the events of D3, even if he lived though D3, by the time we get to D4, he would have died due to old age.

And whom do you think it should have been. Diablo himself?

Listen, the whole Cain’s death thing is not nonsensical or inconsistent lore wise.
To have like a valid criticism, it would have to be more ridiculous than that.
Say I write Superman… and Superman dies, when a random person stabs him. Did Superman lose his powers? No… Was the blade made out of kryptonite? No…
Then of course it doesn’t make any sense whatsoever and it’s simply dumb.
But Cain was never this immortal, larger than life type of character. He was a fragile old man, not a fighter.

Condition rune - Identify an Item
Effect Rune - Cain appears and says something

Not going to happen, D3 is 8 years old.

The best that you’ll get is if Cain comes back as a ghost. He’s not going to be come back in flesh unless Cain becomes something other than human. That said, Cain was already going to die; Diablo 3 took place 20 years after Diablo 2 and you could see that the years were tough on Cain. Diablo 4 will take place at least a decade(s) after Diablo 3, so there wouldn’t be much way for Cain to not have died (if not from enemies, then by old age).

My bad i edited it,
I meant do you agree with it not being a cinematic haha

Not him putting up a battle obviously he cant even fend off the skele’s in Leorics Manor or the fallen in Tristram xD
Couldve been a suprise attack on the town in a cinematic, FIRE, DARKNESS the result being Maghda or her minions attacking draining Cains life force then Cain reforging the sword.

I agree man

I agree with this of course, my point is its Deckard Cain…Probably the only Human character that has been with us since Diablo 1 (Well that i can think of)

I thought the encounter was fine. I’m glad it was done in game.

Fair enough im sure many are but for me it wasnt enough

I don’t know about that. I’d say he’s given enough, I don’t need him trapped as a ghost, forever bound to Sanctuary.
I’d like to think he’s in a better place… as a reward for all his help throughout the years.

HOW? Diablo 1 he looks pretty damn old and is called the town elder
Diablo 2 i mean he looks younger than Diablo 1 probably…them graphics man
Diablo 3 still just looks like an old man in a robe…Maybe hes like Master Roshi Immortal old man

I agree and i dont think he needs to come back as a ghost either we are sadly done with my man deckard cain

He cannot live forever as was already stated D4 will cover events decades after D3. Cain was barley alive in D3. He would be in a wheelchair on oxygen with two CNAs helping him in D4.

Oh I agree, I would like Cain to rest as well. My post was towards those who actually wanted Cain to make an actual appearance in Diablo 4.

In Diablo 2, Cain was imprisoned by demons and more than likely had to watch his fellow townsfolk of Tristram be slain and consumed by the dark army that occupied Tristram.

After the events of Diablo 2, Cain was spending most of his time trying to do what he can to combat the forces of evil, which weren’t simple tasks. Cain was often going into unholy grounds, such as tombs, in order to conduct his research and such places were more than often infested with dark creatures. Cain was doing all of this for nearly 20 years, while also raising Leah whenever he could.

Also, despite Cain literally living through the events of Diablo 2, his warnings were often ignored by nearly everyone around him. Most of the folks considered him a crazy senile old man.

So yeah, he’s been through enough.

Both in D1 and D2 his face was darker, even though he was a white guy.
I’d imagine was meant to represent your face going a bit darker due to smoking (although we never saw him smoke in-game).

Yet in D3 he wasn’t as dark… maybe he quit smoking due to old age? Still had a nasty cough, though.

Or was it, that Blizzard were afraid, that people were going to think, that he’s doing blackface?

Questions, questions…

I agree man thanks for discussing the topic ^^
just really wish we see cinematic of it, If not its fine just wondering who else wants some sort of cinematic memory of it, for me it didnt hit home, it didnt make me emotional in anyway over it i didnt even think he was actually dead :'D

I mean, Isnt Tyrael doing the face in D3 too? haha

I think he wasn’t doing it in a mean way, I’d guess that’s how he imagined himself being if he were a mortal and that’s how he ended up being…
