Darklight fix please

Devs,

As new season/era approaches, please fix Darklight so that it replaces Pigsticker as 1-H weapon of choice for Crusader AoV. Darklight was reworked a couple seasons back, yet has been a dud weapon from launch-day one. I am guessing that the math did not end up adding up as intended. Please correct.

I am not asking for power boost of any significance but just the tweak fix that Darklight needs enough to make it a weapon of choice for the 1-H AoV build variant.

Thank you in advance,

Right now it is still used in key farming and speed solo grs for sader. In order for Darklight to be used for pushing with AoV it would need a big power boost to deal similar dps as heavens fury.

It’s too late for this season, but maybe season 22.

It needs another supporting item. That belt is kinda feeble, only 170% damage increase.

HoF has bracers, 2h flail, 2 shields (why isn’t Eberli Charo on the online D3 guide??)

You mean this?

It’s a Shield, not a Crusader Shield.

Hof is a Crusader skill, so why on earth is it a regular shield that any shield-enabled classes can equip?

pig sticker is used for solo heaven’s fury build. It’s no longer used in the top clears ever since the stutter step nerf.

Dark light is a fist of heaven’s build… Nobody uses pig sticker for fist of heaven builds… not even for t16. There are tons of better choices.

So yea, the weapons you named are used in different builds…

Dark light is actually pretty powerful for farming T16 (keys) and GR90 (gem ups and primals).
Heaven’s fury build is for pushing, but it’s too slow for farming.

It’s great that AoV has 2 different builds with the same set that can cover all options (farming vs pushing), so that can use it to do everything.

The optimal setup is to cube the Darklight and equip the Steed Charge set for +100% damage and very quick clears.

Well, Sir, that is where the tweak comes in.

If, as an example, Darklight would have a 1000% FotH (as it does now) but also a 15% Fires of Heaven bonus in its orange power section, then it would be a better item than the Pigsticker. And it would do so without breaking any balance rules.

Just as an fyi, as long as the devs might apply such a fix, it would be nice perhaps to work out some kind of equilibrium so that the 1-H AoV variant (with Darklight) would be on par with the 2-H Fate of the Fell variant of the AoV build. That way, not only would the item fix occur, but a second play style for greater push would become available to crusaders with minimal effort from the dev team. All it would take is a bit play-around with balancing the Fires of Heaven bonus on Darklight.

Win-win for everyone involved. But even, should Blizzard be fixed on their approach as 2-H variant being ultimately superior still, at the very least, replacing the Pigsticker just seems like the elegant thing to do, given the fundamental stats and seeming intent on Darklight as was done in the first place two seasons ago.

It’s a Fist of Heavens weapon. Works great IMO for Fist of Heavens oriented builds. If your build utilizes Heaven’s Fury as your main DPS option then of course you may choose a different weapon.

All they need to do is change the attack speed on it.

That argument holds until you consider how much more elegant the Heaven’s Fury build becomes when two FotH rays are created and Wrath regeneration actually works at full potential. Darklight is beautiful for that, while the Pigsticker is another dime-a-dozen unrelated weapon that happens to vomit more damage, yet is a random, stray cat as far as belonging to the build is concerned.

For me, defending the Pigsticker in this context, is just defending status quo. It is the same redundant weapon that Crusader’s Punisher Invoker build used. It is both unrelated to either of the builds, and yet it is slightly overpowered in relation to the weapons that arguably should have been paired with those builds in the first place.

Just like Hack was a screwed up weapon that should have been fixed to work with Punisher Invoker, so Darklight is a dud version that needs an upgrade to work with AoV.

Fists is and will never be viable for pushing. The AoV set is already overtuned to fires of heaven to the point where every accessory that goes with it has been or will be nerfed.
The only reason people use pig sticker is to abuse game mechanics on how attack speed and frames per second works.
Darklight is a flail. Flails have set attack speed ranges. If they changed a secondary skill to boost attack speed, it could be a fun option. But fists is just kinda there to generate stacks to increase heaven’s fury damage.

Your first two paragraphs are outright false.

Your final paragraph comes from an assumption that attack speed is the only way to fix damage (which is actually a poor design idea, in this case, imo, and I would not like to see that either). It also tells me that you have not read my posts in this thread, as I specifically pointed out a tweak that would solve the problem without undermining any balance issues as Blizzard deems fit. And in no way do I suggest, that my example of the tweak is the only way to handle such. It was just an easy example.

I’m pretty sure why people use Pig Sticker. It’s not for the sound effects.

It’s a dagger. Daggers attack very quickly. Having an extra stat is nice too.

To sum up what I’ve said… NOBODY USES PIG STICKER ANYMORE.

For solo, you use a 2h weapon with ivory tower. 2h weapons attack slower but do more damage. Ivory tower does not care what your attack speed it. It has a chance to proc when you block

For 4 man, you still don’t use pig sticker.

For t16, you still don’t use pig sticker. Dark light is a better option.

so yea, nobody uses pig sticker and darklight > pig sticker for t16 so there you have it. As you requested, darklight replaced pig sticker as “1-H weapon of choice for Crusader Aov” in t16.

How did you get 8k paragon without understanding this stuff?

Just because Darklight maybe better, doesn’t mean nobody uses Pigsticker. They sure as hell do. It’s in a ton of build guides and a lot of people follow the build guides. So it may not be as good, but it’s still being used.

The solo leaderboards are filled with pig-stickers for everyone who doesn’t go lazy shotgun. Fires of heaven is still pretty popular. There are different rules for abusing game mechanics in 4-mans, lol.

Right, I meant nobody on leaderboards would use it.

As you well know, Fang, is that the reason Ivory Tower overperforms is because how the game handles blocking in general. It has nothing to do with Ivory Tower.
