Is there a way to go back into the Darkening Event after you kill the Dark Lord? Didn’t complete some achievement, and I also finished the event before trying to get the calf pet. Tried making a new character, but that didn’t seem to work either. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
A little more information would help but…
Make sure you start with a Level 1 Character. You have to do all 16 levels in one go, but you can go to town while in the dungeon.
If you or follower kill anything before going into the portal, it’s said that can mess up getting the pet. There’s conflicting information on this bit but better safe than sorry. My advice would be to dismiss your follower and any pets you might have before going to Old Tristram. Once you’re through the portal you can port back to town to re-equip your pets (skeletons, golems, zombie dogs, gargartuan, or companions) and your follower.
Other than that, without more information I’m afraid I don’t know what else the issue might be.

YES Easy, Go to the Old Ruins in ACT 1. Go to the middle of the level and there is a portal to the event. Go in it. Leave Tristram and head for the Cathedral and that is Level 1 of the Darkening of Tristram. See if you can find the Legendary Gem called “Red Soul Shard” it is quite unique and a new Legendary Gem to explore. I found it on the first run. I was lucky. Good Luck!!
As far as using a level 1 character for the pet goes. First Level up a Gem of ease to level 30. Pick the wickedest weapon you can hold and put the gem in it. Make sure you are Level 1. If you start your character in campaign mode you will be level 2 before entering the dungeon. That will cancel the pet challenge. Start a character in adventure mode by being in adventure mode first. Now you are Level 1. Dismiss any pets or followers you have. Do the dungeons to level 16 and you should claim your pet.

It’s a guaranteed drop when you beat the end boss (unless you already have it). Like the hoarder gem from Greed.

I can’t say if it spawns in vanilla, but probably so.
You only need to create a level 1 character to get the butcher pet. After you have that, the rest can be done with any character.
To get the butcher pet you have to start with a level 1 character and do it solo. You also need to do it in one session. You can return to town as many times as you want, but you can’t quit the game or have others join you. I wouldn’t bother with a gem of ease. Just cube envious blade, illusory boots, and any other jewelry you have available. If you have any paragon points, distribute them and you can walk through the dungeon. I would only kill the uniques as you’ll be needing to kill them anyways if you want to get the Protector of Tristram achievement. I did it this way and ended up with a level 8 character.
To get the cow pet, you’ll need to start with the rotten mushroom on level 9. Take that to Adria’s hut and click on the cauldron. Then proceed to take things to Farnham, Ogden, Pepin, and then Griswald. Take the plans you get to Headrig and craft the leg. Then salvage the leg to get the map. With the map, click on the cows middle, left, right. You’ll open a passage to a farm with the cow pet.

I did the event in EU server with my main account. Start with lvl 1 hero. In the old tristram, I did kill several mobs so I enter the portal with not lvl 1 hero. when I kill the Dark Lord, i still get the pet. But when I do the event again with my alt account, i not getting the pet. So I need to redo again without kill anything outside portal to finally get the pet. Kinda a buggy i think.
