Damage randomly dropping off

I’m using PoJ Monk set and my damage is randomly dropping even when effectively standing on top of the enemy. I see there’s an old report of this being related to lag but I am not showing any other lag symptoms at the times this is happening nor has this happened and I have run this same build every season since PoJ dropped. Is there any workaround for this?

Do you have the 20,000% damage buff from the 6 piece bonus of your set by having sweeping wand active before starting Tempest Rush, and keeping it active throughout TR?

The best thing to do is record it in action and put the link here so someone can point out what you are doing wrong. If the set were bugged, then you would not be the only person saying it is not working.

I would start by using Balance in the cube.

I do have the 6-piece bonus although I’m currently running RoRG with only 5 pieces on, I don’t have balance to put in my cube otherwise I would have put it in there. I’ll see what I can do about catching it on video but I do not have any recording software I’m aware of, doubly so that can be alt+tabbed out to for. I have had to restart sweeping winds while moving but this has not caused me an issue before, but I will test if that is the only time the issue is currently happening.

Is the requirement for Sweeping Winds to be up prior to TR new, since the description just says they both have to be active?

No it is not new, and that is what I meant by having the bonus damage from the 6 piece. I know you have the full set, but if you do not activate SW prior to TR, you do not get the 20,000% bonus. If you start TR, and then activate SW, it does not give you the 20,000% dmg buff.

The wording on the set says:

  • Hitting with Tempest Rush while Sweeping Wind is active increases the size of Sweeping Wind and also increases all damage dealt by 20,000%.

A more accurate description would be:

  • Starting Tempest Rush while Sweeping Wind is continually active increases the size of Sweeping Wind and also increases all damage dealt by 20,000%.

This may just be the issue then as I usually run Kyoshiro’s Soul but have not been able to get that either and am having a hard time hitting it again if there’s nothing I can melee first. I’d say we should update the tooltip for clarity but with how soon D4 is coming that feels like a waste. Thanks for your time.

I appreciate the additional updates for clarity too then, that would make sense as to the issue if that’s the case and why I hadn’t seen it before.

There’s a long standing bug with Tempest Rush.

There’s an unseen radius (sometimes referred to as “dead zone”) around the centerpoint of the character where if your mouse enters it, it will stop tempest rush and thus reset the stacks.

The issue is that the faster your character is moving, larger the radius. So at normal speed (say, 25% boost), the radius is very small and hard to hit. But things like speed builds and speed pylons make the radius larger and easier to hit.

When I played tempest rush last, I had to train myself to direct the cursor around the character instead of on top of it.

Edit: I found the original description that I found on maxroll (iirc).

You will lose all stacks if you try to Tempest Rush in place by moving your cursor close to the screen’s center. The radius of the “dead zone” in the middle of your screen is proportional to your Movement Speed times your latency. If you have just 25% from Paragon and less than 100ms ping, then this zone will be just couple of pixels wide and it’s nearly impossible to hit it without specifically trying. But if you stack some Movement Speed (e.g. Warzechian Armguards, Speed Pylon) and/or play not in your home region, the “dead zone” can become quite large and you will have to take conscious effort to avoid it.

I appreciate that notice too and I will keep an eye out for it. However it looks like the bad wording on the set pieces and my getting used to not running Kyoshiro’s Soul and having to actually track my stacks was the issue. I have not had the issue since I’ve been paying more attention there.

Im using Monk worh the PoJ on ps4. My damage randomly drops off too, but it happened withy my crusader as well. If you google it theyve been having bug issues of damage just stopping since 2020.
