Damage Meters in D4

If they don’t make sufficient native analytics - both for damage, healing and other stuff - the only things that happen are:

  • players get more frustrated choosing items with no way of knowing which is better
  • players are forced to make memory sniffers and overlay apps that cause nothing but trouble for everyone concerned, including Blizzard.

That’s it.
There are literally zero benefits to NOT make dps meters, other than saving a whooping total of maybe 80 man/hours of dev work, including art department.

If you are afraid that our feeble brains will melt if you give us too much information, and we’d drop your game because of it - hide it by default. So those who have chicken-brains and who get frustrated looking at numbers are spared the mental torment.

But not implementing it at all was a huge mistake of d3

Just no you can see how they ruined WoW from a fun adventure game to a go go go esports mentality

couldn’t you simply say that doing GREATER RIFTS is this exactly…? Say you do GR70 in 5 minutes, you change something, a skill, gear piece, and you do GR70 in 10 minutes, you know now that the changed item is LESS than before. The only difference is that you need to run a Greater Rift to figure it out…/

I know dmg meters is a controversial topic, but yes, I would like a dmg meter and a detailed combat log.
The dmg meter should be for you only, not the party. Since the negative aspects of dmg meters mostly come from the comparison in groups.
But I love data, and dmg meters + combat logs provides that.

Target dummy - Yes

DPS meter - No

Yes, please add training dummies and a damage meter in town in D4. I would like to be able to focus on executing my dps rotation correctly for a prolonged period of time, without being distracted by monsters, and then seeing how well I do. This only makes sense. If itemization and sources of power will be more complex in D4, then we need to understand how well we are doing. I don’t think that looking at how fast you can clear a GR is a good indicator - there are just too many variables in play - shrines, types of mobs, mob density, etc.

I would be fine with training dummy or damage meters.

However, if they stick to gazillion billions millions trillions damage multiplied exponentially like they do in d3 then its pointless.

How about some realistic numbers blizzard?

Don’t really care for damage meters in this type of game.

Also don’t want “LFG PLEASE DO X DPS”

For that work work as the DPS meter people want there needs to be a Dungeon that is Not Random but set in every seance of the word.
That way if you change something in your build you will know after a run if it’s working better or not.

That’s not the way I would play just focusing on a dps rotation, would kill my emission.
But I don’t have the right to tell you how to enjoy the game.

Just make the dmg meters strictly personal. So they are only for your own statistical/testing benefits.

Doesn’t even need to be constantly accessible. A zone only accessible via a teleporter and in T3 or higher, 5 dummies in a medium pentagon shape plus a big one in the center, you can turn off the big one or the 5 small to simulate solo boss or boss with ads or regular mobs. Costs you the price of a full skill/paragon reset to enter BUT you can freely respec points while you’re in there. Each dummy gives an average dps over the last configurable number of seconds or total damage dealt or peak dps/damage dealt based on selections with some npc. Toggleable infinite resource/crackling emergy/mana/whatever as a nice bonus. Super basic, difficult to use for much other than build testing.

If it means you cant get into a competitive leaderboard guild because you haven’t got the dps you probably weren’t a good fit for that guild anyway and were just gonna waste your and their time. There are plenty of casual guilds in WoW, but if you hate these tools then hardcore cutting edge guilds just aren’t the place for you. I do carpentry in my backyard, but that doesn’t mean that I should join a carpenters union. All of the content can be cleared solo. If people want to spend hours metagaming to shave 5 seconds off of their clear time for a leaderboard you have no business gatekeeping their gameplay. But I am firmly in agreement that this needs to be something which can only be personally accessed. If you’re so against it because you’re afraid of toxicity then maybe redirect your energy towards pushing blizzard to update their tos against said toxicity.

Just put in training dummies. I’m sure they can divert some KFC mount dev funding towards this endeavor.
