Another “D2 fanboy” post but in latest IGN interviews about D4 devs pretty much confirm D3 had a lot of mistakes in overall game design. D4 dark atmosphere, music, skill trees, itemisation will be inspired mostly by D1 and D2. Opinions from D4 closed beta seems to confirm that as well (I didn’t play it myself). If we look at D2 through rose-coloured glasses and D3/Immortal are so good and succesfull games why would they even look back then?
No more cartoon graphics, legendaries with 10000% damage buffs, hopefully no long cooldowns and forced playstyles by items as well.
Only thing D3 did right was smooth gameplay but it lacks atmosphere, has broken itemisation and no character development (all power coming from items).
Immortal on the other hand is a cash grab with reused stuff from D3 for gambling addicts. I guess that’s what mobile players love. I’m fully against its p2w model and there’s still risk it might appear in D4.

well it’s not like you could miss that as any person in the gaming indsutry. we were pretty loud about it xD
Those interviews, videos etc. mostly seems like PR. Same with the whole “Return to Darkness”… They say one thing, but do another.
The game they are showing tells a different story.

To true.
Gameplay is essentially D3 with a D2 splash of paint.
I’m looking forward to it.

Unless there are huge changes in D4 Beta that I don’t know, they took D3 legendary item power, most of the D3 affixes such as CDR, CC, CD, goblin, D3 inventory system, character endgame progression, D3 seasons, 6 skill bars, skills with a cooldown, D3 transmogrification, instance endgame zone like D3 rift…and fixed open-world, world bosses and town hub was from DI into D4. It is almost all the core of the combat gameplay was inspired by D3…
But yeah, let’s keep pretending D4 will take more from D1/D2 than D3…and DI

I’m sure this will go well.

From everything i have read so far. It resembles D3 the most out of the Diablo games, specially the itemization.
The atmosphere and the tone might be closer to D2, but everything else is more D3 from items to legendaries. Cooldown based gameplay etc etc.

Whatever they do & assuming elective mode makes a return, they need to enable it by default and then make it non-configurable. It’d be the greatest innovation to the series since auto gold pickup.
Dude we just…want a good game. None cares about a freaking number behind a title ultimately. It sounds so fanatic when you talk about these numbers.

The one that brought up the freaking number behind a title is not me. Why don’t you tell the one that created this thread? Double standard at the finest.

Combat is more fluid than D3… that is what people say. That is fantastic to hear.

Diablo 2 rules, even ign knows that.
Last few days I am lvl-ing chars from 1-70 to get used to Diablo 4 speed before it is released.
You know exactly how long it takes to level a char in D4? Just curious.
The most important thing they did, which is not necessarily D2 (but certainly not D3) is fix ITEMIZATION.
It is much much better from the looks of things! Don’t know what D? it is but for my play style it will be a big improvement.
It’s kind of a mix of D2 and 3, but rares and legendarys lean more to D3, while uniqes work similar to D2. I haven’t come across sets yet.
Thanks for insights. Just to be clear I’m not against cartoonish graphics at all, I like them in Torchlight for example but it just doesn’t fit in Diablo game. Similar thing happened in Dawn of War 3. They tried to turn respected rts to something moba like and it was a disaster.
Why is “D2 Fanboy” in quotes?
Just another one who tries to convince others and pretends he is not exactly a fanboy but clearly is, from the statements after these.
It’s the true Eternal Conflict. Pointing out issues about D3 makes anyone immidiately a D2 fanboy when they can admit D2 has issues as well like broken balance (casters meta) or boring endgame farming same boss all day. Can’t complain about unplayable crusader breaking server because it makes me a fanboy and hater lmao. No wonder game won’t improve that way.
I played both for long time and if they aren’t perfect I still prefer D2 for its atmosphere. I don’t really have any good memories from D3 when I think about it and I’m sure not the only one to feel that way.

No, pointing out the issue doesn’t make one a fanboy. Ther language uses do.
