M. Morhaim’s retirement
One of the person who block the Activision’s pressure for long time.
Allen Brack takes charge of it.
He needs visible performance to get Activision’s trust as a new CEO.
Diablo 4 is the right one.

Ruined 2019 blizzcon
They had a market capitalization of about 830 billion dollar in one day. Cuz of immortal. Activision would be of course pissed off at the catastrophe. It allow activision get more pressure to blizz.
I am not an blizz man , but from an sallery guy’s perspective, Dev would be forced to develope in hurry.

Quarterly information disclosure
Q.I.D is not good sales strategy if it gets longer. It is reasonable to guess 4th or 5th information disclosure is final. That means 2021 is reliable.

I disagree for some reasons.
One being that if they rush this game and it fails it will be a major issue for Blizzard’s image. And stackholders don’t like bad image.
Second, as of right now Team 3 has being taking a different approach towards the community in a way that we probably never seen before in Blizzard (ask for feedback in early development, promising quarterly updates on development, lead game designer writing a letter recognizing community concerns after 10 day from game announcement a so on…)
That COULD MEAN they are open for reworking some systems to please the gamers and that takes time. D3 took 4 years to be released mainly due to lots of systems overhaul, scrap and start over.
So you could be right that their plan is a early 2021 release, but if they stick to their promises of hearing the community and following along, we’ll be seeing some delay.
And against stack holders they have two major cards: D3 and D:I
Wait a bit longer and earn a lot more or rush and gamble. At this point, I guess they’ll probably take a more conservative aproach
At some points, i agree with it.
First, It depends on how many things they reflect on D4
But still, i guess game will be released in 2021.
As revealed 4 months ago, they have plan to release in early 2021 at the latest.
I am not a player of game industry, but In the light of my experience as a developer, normaly compay plans the release from a conservative perspective.
The 2021 plan may have been designed with relfecting feedback in mind as well.
Second, taking more time does not guarantee the quality of product goes up.
It takes more money and let rivals have more time to upgrade their game.
As you can see D4 demo play, they put POE, Lost Ark things into D4.
That means they regard 2 games as rival. POE, for example, they notice major announce after D4 revealed. Blizzard may know this.
It is area of trust recovery and survive. Indeed, making fabulous, excellent game and getting image is important. In blizzard situation, it seems making good game in limited time and get a firm position in their area is more important. (5years are not short though) Time is live or die problem for them.

You sound right.
We don’t know the size of D3’s team, but we know Blizzard was hiring to speed up development. Would be really bad for them to take too long for a release.
Damn it, I’m getting hyped all over again -.-
Speculating and commiserating every waking moment about it isn’t going to make it come any sooner. It’s just going to make the wait feel longer.
Just like everything else from Blizzard, D4 will be late. I’m looking at a release date in 2022 or even longer.
No, but taking that much less time certainly isn’t encouraging.
If they keep the designs seen in the various demos, then yes, I can see an earlier release; that would justify my impression of a reskinned Diablo 3 with some core changes, and probably not impress me very much. I’d like to believe there will be more time than that in service to something that looks, feels, and plays something actually new.
But I guess, who knows either way.
The OP logic sounds iffy. 1. sounds like a good reason to take one’s time and at least make it closer to 22, 23 rather than dish it up immediately. 2. Old blizzcon, we’re working off the now, and there’s plenty of things on Blizzard’s plate to contend before a completely new game. All is not banking on D4. D4 is a hard hitting punch, and yet, they have multiple smaller strikes to establish in the meantime, making the recovery not quite so urgent if they do seek to make a more complete revision of the Diablo experience. 3. Not seeing the relevance in light of the above.
The goal is obviously the sooner the better.
We all agree that 2020 is ruled out, which I am perfectly fine with. Based on comments and what I see, I think 2021 is a legit release year, I would break it out as follows:
2020 = 0% chance
2021 = 70% chance
2022 = 29% chance
2023 = 1% chance
I agree with a lot of what is mentioned in the OP, but 5 Quarterly displays puts us at a final 5th display in May of 2021, which imo when these end, we will have our Beta.
The Beta likely will and should go at minimum a full 4 months to ensure all bugs are addressed, and balance appears proper.

I’ll lean towards end of 2021 earliest and mid quarter of 2022 likely. If they rush it, investors will get pissed because stock flow will not cover the advertisement campaign costs at all. I’ll give it 3 years at best because they said “not even Blizzard soon” if it were to be 2 years they’d give a reliable release date already.
Who said 5th one will be “final”?
Marketing 101,
The more consumers know about a product, but the longer they wait to get the product in their hands, the more they become disinterested in the product.
Marketing teams try to release products at least 1.5 years after the announcement of the product for reasons related to this.

Let them take how ever long they need, I would rather have a good complete product then a half finish train wreck.
OK, enough talk of Blizz biz, character stats, level design, skill trees and so forth. Let’s move on to a more serious topic here - What about the COWS?? Any love for GOBLINS?? Will we see Cuddle Bears and Unicorns? I mean, come on! What about the IMPORTANT stuff?
I give it a 2025 release.
