In D4, I would like the length of the weapon to reflect an increased swing damage range. I am referring to two handed long weapons. In D3, any weapon you pick up all appear to have the same swing range no matter if it’s a one or two hander.
Please make D4 more precise to swing damage range for weapons that appear to be long.

Noone uses default attack in place of a skill.
that’s not what he’s saying. in d2, if i’m a ww barb, my weapon length and speed is important. if i’m a zeal paladin, the same thing applies. skills went hand in hand with the design of the weapons. these are gameplay elements that have been lost in the casualization of the franchise. i can’t stand that so many categories lack distinguishable qualities and this extends to a lot of the design choices, from a ring and an axe being the same in your bag to 1 gold and 100,000 gold being the same “i run over it and it adds to my number” decision in game. nothing differentiates them, mechanically, to the player. even the items all being identified on the ground for crying out loud. it just feels ultra lazy and casual to me but i’m sure many people won’t care.

All weapons should come with an inherent affix for the weapon type. Could make sense if something like polearms had a +20% melee range and AoE radius effect for example.
While a mace might come with a stun chance etc.
I’m even more worried about the lack of attack speed on weapons. That is just crazy.

thats actually part of the problem
skills didnt just take over the place of basic attacks, they also took over the place of weapon types
in D3, there arent any weapons affecting how you are fighting
hold a bow -> throw knives
hold a polearm ->throw knives

Right. That too. Making all skills that require a specific weapon to work.
In D3, nearly everything works. D4 may need more skill to weapon fine tuning so that it makes sense.
I agree… I don’t know exactly about the weapon range specifically but I think you should have differences between the weapons. Mace, axe and sword should all be different. 2hand swords, hammers and poleaxes should get the same sort of bonus but be slower and do area damage.

In D1 mace did +50% more dam to skeletons, and -50% to animals. A sword - vice versa. That was cool.
