D4 renown system

I just wanna drop a request for D4 to be able to toggle off the renown system. That’s really not a big deal and is done in other games like the borderlands series.

Obviously it might be a bit more complicated since you can spend skillpoints in the skill tree that would then disappear when toggling it off? I don’t exactly know what’s the best way to do it but figure it out. Maybe just allow players to activate it for a new character whenever they want to and not just force it on them from level 1.

Imo, the renown rewards should only activate at lvl 50+ for all characters*. No toggle.

Dont take away from the early game experience with another shared power system.

(*could maybe activate as soon as the renown was earned, on the character that earned it, but not on other characters, unless they also earned it themselves, making it more of a shared system that still somewhat rewards each character for also doing it themselves; by getting access to the power earlier than if merely getting it through the account sharing)

Anything. I’d take anything that doesn’t force me to be overpowered in the early game.

Don’t spend the extra points? Willpower :sunglasses:

Not my job
I play games to relax

Strictly speaking, nobody’s forcing you to do literally anything. You don’t even have to put on clothes tomorrow if you don’t want to (though I’d strongly encourage putting them on, as naked people have little to no influence on society).

As i said above it’s not my job to hold anything back. The point of a game is to use every tool given to you to overcome a challenge. And if that system is trivialized then that’s on the dev not on the player to not use points because they are ruining the experience

nobody is forcing you to take part in the renown system. Get a grip

If you do not want to gain renown, don’t do it!
Don’t spend skill points you gain accidentally.

Why Demand dev waste effort to deactivate for only a small minority, and mind you, that you can fully ignored.

because it can’t be ignored. that’s not how games work. be smarter.

Translation: I don’t like my alt char to be boasted, so no one should be able to do so. Sure I can just not use the points, but I have no disciple. Screw everyone else that wanted alt chars to level faster.

i asked for an option to simply disable the system. read better.

:100: :100:

This really should not need to be said, but here we are.

It should not be deactivated for a small minority. It should just be deactivated for everyone by default. Just only activate shared renown rewards at lvl 50+.

Of course. That is called having an opinion.
Some people also want to have instant lvling. As well as a vendor that sells perfectly rolled max lvl items for 1 gold each.
I can have the opinion that it would make for a worse game to give them what they want. And I do.

It’s called being selfish!

When there are 2 dishes in cafeteria free for employees , if you say, these are my suggestions for the dishes. It’s opinion.

If you say I only wanted one dish. I am on a diet. Remove 2nd dish.

This is selfish !!

No one stopping you from allocating points after level 50+!!!
But by demanding this, you are depriving others that want to allocate point earlier!!

Again, selfish!

If it is selfish to want a better game for everyone, then I guess. But not in any version of reality.

Sorry, but handing out everything to players instantly, does not make for a better game. Saying that they should need to play the game to unlock things is not selfish, just common sense in game design.

Should all enemies in the game also have an option of killing themselves the moment the player enters their zone, because that would offer players more freedom to play a pacifist build? Is there a limit to endless freedom?

Sure, and why dont all characters just start at lvl 100, and have a million skill points? You are depriving others who just want to fill out the entire skill tree 3 seconds after opening the game (or however long it takes to open the skill tree and press the “Fill out the entire tree” button.

How about having 5000 items slots so I can equip all legendary and unique items at once. Surely preventing that would be selfish.

This is classic strawmaning.
Simply saying allow players to allocate points earlier is same as wanting Superman characters without effort……

Looks like you cannot rebut that you are just selfish.

Yes.
But used with a purpose here, of underscoring how you need to set limits somewhere.
You have to draw the line somewhere when it comes to freedom in a game. A game is defined by rules and limitations. Endless freedom = no game.

Disagreeing on where that line should be drawn is not selfishness, it is different views on what makes a good game.

Just the line being drawn at different places.

Btw, I am not against being able to allocate more skill points earlier. Like, you might start the game with 10 skill points at lvl 1. That could be really good imo. The faster players can get a real build going, the better.
Likewise, all skills should be accessible at lvl 1. Having skills that only unlock at lvl 30 is nonsense design.

But then the game, as in monsters etc., should also be balanced around that design. And not be some power jump that is added on top of the power curve later.

The problem is, you draw this line. It’s not the line I drawn, that use against mine!

That’s like someone asked for a reasonable raise , and the responses by HR is oh, if I give you the raise, you ask for more, you will never be satisfied and soon you will ask for a houses a Ferrari and a French maid as response.

It’s simply an attempted to dismiss your original request or a reasonable pay raise , by shoehorn outrageous straw man sensationalize leap.

If you think alt chars shouldn’t get boost, even as an option, you are free to give your opinion, don’t use straw man, do not sensationalize or misrepresent.

Which was indeed my point. This is not selfishness, merely different opinions on where to draw the line of rules and limitations in a game.

No not at all, because the point here is, that first “reasonable ask” is not something I consider reasonable. This is not a slippery slope argument at all.
I am not at all saying players should not get renown at lvl 1 because they will then ask for something else afterward, I am saying they should not get renown at lvl 1 because they should not get renown at lvl 1.
So not remotely the same.

Yes. Which is specifically what I did, and was explaining above!
My whole argument was that drawing the line wherever, high or low, is an opinion on what makes a good game, and not about selfishness.

Skill don’t unlock by reaching certain lvls, they unlock as you put more ponts into the tree. So the more points you have, the faster you progress trough the skill tree. But skills only on their own don’t help much in the long run, you have to have your gear and levels also. For a lvl1 char it’s huge kickstart, but eventualy it’s not much. You get through the early stages of leveling faster, but at some point you’re back to normal leveling. You had a little head start with your 2nd or 3rd char but that’s it. It’s not like in D3 where you have 1000 of paragons on a lvl1 char in NS, equip lego powers in the cube, jump into T6 and one shot every thing, and get to lvl70 in a blink of an eye. You’ll still need your levels to jump difficulty, you still need your gear to survive. Haveing extra skills without any stat points or gear will not fly you into end game.
