Explainer

  • Fantasy: Dungeon Keeper 1, Starcraft 2’s Crap Patrol mod
  • Dungeon Keeper 1: In 1997, a revolutionary game allowed players to taste what it means to be on the side of monsters. Reversing the point of view completely changed the narration. Monsters were no longer invaders, they were instead defenders, rightfully protecting their lair against those bellicose heroes.
  • Crap Patrol: A famous mod for Starcraft 2 that allows players to incarnate various characters with singular powers, both gradually unlocked through continuous leveling.
  • Permanent Realm: An official mod in the Diablo IV world. Same engine, different rules, characters and environments. Item management is similar to Warcraft 3 (any item any slot). The price to access the realm is reasonnable ($10-$20).
  • Resurrected: Also, please resurrect the original DK1 in 4K.

Yeah no. Dev resources can be used for better things. Just go play Dungeon Keeper.

At least consider the wiki and the monsters / skills / spells / fantasy potential

Not nightmareish enough. It’s just goofy.

We have. No place in the Diablo legendarium or lore. Hard pass on this one.

I want to play Diablo, not Pokemon.

Diablo Immortal’s Bestiary is literally a Pokedex.

Having a Pokedex in Diablo is a great feature.
It immensely contributes to the lore.
It is like an embed wiki, inside the game.

What a lack of imagination.
Imagine them in realistic 8K as nightmarish versions.

I’ve forever championed a bestiary for Diablo. Worked out one that would work similarly to D1 where the more you kill an enemy the more info you get about them. Like in DI you would get items from said enemy type turn them in, add to the page. Once the page is filled you get a reward and a quest to take down a special champion of that type. Once a family is completed you get access to a special family themed dungeon/stronghold/scenario to complete for family themed items.

However, a Dungeon Keeper mode is 100% not what D4 or any Diablo game needs.

Ahaha I like this idea. :+1:
Loot Bestiary page info on kill.

This is just one crazy idea among many.

The idea to reverse monsters and heroes is quite fun and refreshing.
In Warcraft, the player used to incarnate the Humans AND the Orcs.

I admit though that designing playable enemy characters requires a lot of work.

The Crap Patrol 2 mod for Starcraft 2 did it by adding 2-3 heroes first, then 1 every year. Over 10 years, it makes a difference.

It might not be priority for now, but adding different ways to play keeps the game fun and players engaged, like a hub of different experiences.

From my personal experience, the Arcade mode for Starcraft 2 is litteraly what kept me playing to the game for 10 years.

If you add on top of that a business model, it can sustain itself.

Then, and only after then, there is the idea of overhauling DK1, which is a completely separated idea, but can reuse some monsters models. More like a tribute to the incredible work Vicarious Visions did to D2, or how Two-Point nailed the new version of Theme Hospital by releasing Two Point Hospital.

BattleNet (Just like Steam) offers a great access point to many games crafted for DnD fans, so it would be a juicy opportunity to drive this qualified public to the remaster of a game which has been among the best when it was released.

In the same perspective, I think Blizzard should deal with Larian Studios to distribute Baldur’s Gate 3 over BattleNet.

Maybe not a pure D4 part, but I’d appreciate such a game.

It’s a catalog of the critters - you aren’t fighting a book using other critters in the book.

I would love a pet class that captures monsters to turn them on other monsters.

Oh wait, I already proposed this:

Gotta catch them all !
Pikapika ! :cat: :zap:

I doubt there’d be peaceful monsters in Sanctuary, especially during D4 time period.

What do we really know about them ? :face_with_monocle:

Maybe they do have language, rites, religion, social structure, perhaps culture ?

#lore :open_book:

It’s normal they get mad if humans invade their world. :stuck_out_tongue:

That they’re incredibly suceptible to the evil essence of Hell (especially the Lords of Hell), and can become berserk, crazed, and/or murderous even without human intervention or contact and go out of their way to attack any nearby person, even if person hadn’t done anything to them. And with Sanctuary having more demonic influence on it than perhaps ever before, yeah, there would hardly be any “peaceful” monsters on it.

Hum.

You mean they are berserk because their very essence is corrupted by a blindful Hate.

Just like Zergs.
Until Sarah Kerrigan freed them all.

If Inarius is Jim Raynor, and Lilith is Sarah Kerrigan, then it’s fine.

Inarius is no Jim Raynor. But all in all, peaceful monsters simply don’t exist in Sanctuary, and Lilith sure isn’t going to free them. She only cares about utilizing Nephalem potential as weapons.

What if one of them was immunized ?
and it rebels against its masters ?
and fights back against slavery ?
and makes a pact with humans ?
and saves its people ?

I mean manichaeism is too simple to be realistic.

For example, in Baldur’s Gate 3, they created Omeluum, a good aligned Illithid.

Omeluum is a mind flayer that broke free of its Control Brain

https://baldursgate3.wiki.fextralife.com/Omeluum

Omeluum was an illithid born with arcane powers that manged to escape the Grand Design of its designated elder brain. It managed to find a life of independence unlike so many other illithids, and became a member of the Society of Brilliance during its travels throughout the Underdark

Exception always confirm the rule.
It is a marker of credibility.

Doubtful, especially if you’re talking about monsters.
