D4 items to use : Getting Started

Different items to use : Common , Magic , Normal, Sacred and Ancestral are categories that define how good the stats are .

I would not discussed Common and Magic items because its low stats and not very exciting .

Normal , Sacred and Ancestral drop based on your level as you level to max 100
Normal start at 1 and can go to 100 max
Sacred start around level 40 ish to 100 max
Ancestral start around 80 ish to 100 max

Lets switch to a secondary designators called Rare and Legendary
Rare (yellow) item can be Normal (hereby called Rare) , Sacred or Ancestral
Rare item has a fixed 4 stats
Legendary item can be Normal (hereby called Legendary) , Sacred Legendary or Ancestral Legendary .
Any Legendary items will have a fixed 4 stats + a 5th stats that is called legendary aspects / affix
This legendary aspects can be xtracted at the occultist . destroying the item and become an Aspect that can be imprinted back to similar Rare items thereby making the Rare items a Legendary / Sacred Legendary or Ancestral Legendary .
The rules are same categories aspect can be imprinted to same categories Rare .
So you can not extract a Legendary aspects from a Sacred Legendary and imprint to an Ancestral Rare . You need to find the same aspects from a Legendary Ancestrals to imprint Ancestral Rare .

The Legendary any categories items now inherit the 5th stats from the aspects .

So Rare will turn to Legendary
Sacred Rare will turn to Sacred Legendary
Ancestral Rare will turn to Ancestral Legendary

There is also another way to imprint rare items using the Codex of Power that you get from completing a dungeon .
Advantage of codex is you can use the codex multiple times and not have to find another similar categories legendary drop and u can use the same codex to regular / Sacred or Ancestral items turning it to the appropriate Legendary items
Disadvantage is codex will always rolled with lowest range of the aspects say if the aspect said " Meteor damage at (x-y) %" , The codex will give you x % .
While if you get the same aspect from a Legendary drop , u might get y % ( max range value)
Obviously if the codex has a fixed value , you dont need to find a similar categories Legendary drop

Last but not least there is a Unique items with the same categories : Unique, Sacred Unique and Ancestral Unique

Unique items can be very powerful but you can not extract any aspects from it . You just use it as is

So once you reach max level and max paragons , you want to equipped all your item slots with Ancestral Legendaries and or Ancestral Uniques with the right stats for your build

Note that the end game items Ancestral Legendaries unlike Primals in D3 does not rolled with perfect stats , so you will have plenty of times to grind your gg Ancestral Legendary and Ancestral Uniques

the system already sucks. i dunno why you would want to build up on it.

D3? never heard of that. must have been a bad dream.

Depressing this is where D4 itemization ended up, with effectively 4 tiers of copied items:
Codex => Normal => Sacred => Ancestral

There was a short while where it seemed like Blizzard might have been on the right track. With rares, legendaries and uniques, maybe even magics, played a role, and no copy repetition to be seen anywhere.

not only that but also

normal
magic
rare=legendary=unique

Actually , there is a lot of variations to add to your chart . since each items has different stats with different rolls and none of those are max .
Also those items can have item level to 100 and some times a well rolled item level 85 Ancestral is better than level 100

so the same item +10% stats, the same item -10% stats, the same item +20% stats…

Not really ,
because you might not want the same 4 fixed stats on an Ancestral Legendary.
Yes you might want the legendary stats + 10% ,
But those 4 stats can be completely new 4 stats … There is quite a bit of that fixed stats and difference in the slot also

Yea but every item is 4 stats + 1 legendary effect. Imagine being in that industry and genre for 20 years and not being able to come up with more diversity than that. LOL.

Well yeah its not really ground breaking … I am ok though , since it will be another 10 years maybe more to get D5
We still have hope cuz Joe promised Set items will come

Yea imagine that’s now THE arpg we are sticking to for the next 10 years and that’s what we farm for. 4 stats and 1 legendary effect x10

Like every arpgs. Maybe play another genre

Well no
Diablo 2 had a better system and D4 could have had a better system
Magic items were talked about, runes were planned, rare items were their own thing. Itemization was in a good spot 2 years ago

And then they doubled it !!!

Not that it matters which 4 affixes you want on that ancestral legendary, as you can just move the legendary effect around?

That ain’t no hope  Not having set items are one of the best decisions about the D4 itemization so far. Not because having set items are guaranteed to be bad (just very very likely). But at least not having set items around, reduces the potential damage Blizzard could do.

Yeah, it is embarrassing.

Honestly, I really don’t like set items. If d4 has them, then it will be d3 all over again. I like d3, but I want to play a different game. Yeah, d2 had set items, but you could easily make it through hell with rares and a unique or two.

You can only move / imprint the legendary effect one time from another legendary of the same drop once . But you can move / imprint a legendary effect from the codex multiple times .
Remember , legendary essence from a legendary drop is more valuable than codex if its the same and some of the powerful one is not in the codex of power

Hence, it being a bunch of copies of the same item giving the same essence, and the same essence you already got as a codex no less? :frowning: Just the same repetition from start to finish. The codex really is a weird addition. Seems like Blizzard got scared it might take more than 2 days to get geared in this game, so lets remove the items concept from items.

It technically helps that some powers are not in the codex, but that also seems like rejoicing that a system is only 90% bad, and the value of something not being in the codex will then also be very build dependent. Heck, might even limit build options as you progress, based on what is and isn’t in the codex.

Watching the devs in todays twitch stream, I believe their intents on codex of power is to start giving out a legendary powers as you are leveling , hence it always rolls the lowest range .
But they are keeping the better rolled one and the better legendary aspects on the legendary drops not on the codex to make the players grind it out .
It is repetition but isn’t that the point of the game is to get better loots , and increase your damage / builds ?
