[D4] if you are solo what play style do you run?

2 for me… Exploration is most of the fun. When you get to speed running I find most games get boring real fast

I am an obsessive explorer, I have a need to peek into every corner, and complete every thing I can. Even in D3, if I redo the campaign, I absolutely need to kill every monster, break every breakable item, pick up every satchel, and have all of the map visible in every zone before moving on.

My first play through in D4 will probably be very slow.

When I play From Software titles, I’m slow and methodical and enjoy it.

After two decades of D2 and D3, I don’t think I could ever be slow and methodical in a Diablo game, so definitely option 3 for me.

Lazy. Strictly fecklessly and arbitrarily.

I see myself as a roleplayer who wants to follow his inclination and does it through the class and its development, but does not go by numbers, but by history and built up surrounding story around it.
You follow a path and thereby you experience an adventure that resists you and you find yourself in a world that on the one hand makes a claim, but on the other hand through secrets, story, suspense, atmosphere and immersion constantly drives you to want to continue without working, or goals based on numbers to strive for, or even a nonsensical goal for an RPG to want to reach the maximum level as quickly as possible, because then it starts … no then the best aspect is over!
Unless it opens up a new way, but which lets you specialize and otherwise the old system from before continues to serve and the world and the events there and the way in the center… RPG just… not an end-game sports game.

I prefer D1 playstyle/speed and the strong atmo, combined with D2 class differences and depth/understanding and that please much much more expanded and also alive through constant continuation.
D3 is not a Diablo RPG game for me in the sense, it’s something else and not really interesting for me.

Keep it simple, but in the right places absolutely rousing. An RPG doesn’t need 1000 systems that just bloat it and distract from the core.

I played back through the campaign this weekend.
Super fun and very much the type of experience most people here seem to be asking for.
Might be worth trying again if it’s been a while.

One of D3s mistakes imo was abandoning the campaign when they made Adventure mode. Replaying the campaign at higher difficulty should itself be an optional endgame activity, with difficulty and rewards equal to running GRifts/key dungeons etc.

I’d say that campaign should slightly exceed those of the target methods as the reward there is not only do you get to “farm” specifically for something (say a boss battle), but they are often much faster.

Of course, perhaps, these should be delayed until completion so campaign mode does not become a slightly better bounty system, where you run specific missions and reload the game to do them again – I’m thinking perhaps, one gets a “Gift” on completion of an Act. Or something like that.

Yeah definitely. Replaying the same part of the campaign again and again should not be efficient. Full replays is what should be rewarding.

Speed should always be part of the reward balancing. Rewards per hour played basically (as similar difficulty of course).
That said, campaign probably should offer less reward than something like key dungeons, due to another factor; randomness. Playing the campaign would be somewhat static (unless additional random elements were added to the endgame replays at least), while key dungeons are supposed to have random elements. Random elements make things more difficult / harder to optimize for. That needs to be taken into account as well.
