[D4] does anyone like the idea of Ancient/Primals?

I simply hate the idea behind ancient legendaries, they are just a tier separation on what should already be endgame gear, a dumb numeric bump on stats that adds nothing interesting to the items.

Legendaries should be judged by their rolls on modifiers and not because they have a flag that makes them better than all other legendaries you have of that type.

They did state in d4 that Mythical items will be a thing, but you can only have 1 equipped. My guess would be these items would be bound on account and not tradeable.

I personally would rather have items have a Range of stats they can roll with Rare items having a slightly higher stat attributes, but the trade off is you don’t get that Legendary power that comes tacked on the legendary item.

Well for my 2 cents they are not necessary, they give a cheap feeling of progression, not terribly imaginative TBH.

I like it conceptually, but not in practice. Instead of it being roll-based, maybe have it be so ancients and primals are earned by using the gear a crap-ton. So it really is ancient. Like at some point it hits a body count of some sort and upgrades. It’d make it easier to tech something into a late game build instead of just hoping for the best roll on an item you already have.

I’m okayish with the mythic tier, being single items, I meant the primal/ancient legendaries that are just an numeric upgrade on existing legendaries

It kinda depends on how these items drop, how good can they get etc. Will we have smart loot again.
On paper these superrare items seem fine, but let’s wait out to see how this plays out.

It’s like cups in starbucks.

Ancient is the real “Legendary”, legendary is “rare/yellow”, and rare and below are to be salvaged.

The system was flawed and it can’t be balanced without strong legendary power, which eliminated the possibility of wearing any rare items.

In this case the idea of ancient legendary is actually a brilliant solution to the flawed system - you can have legendaries to make you build complete but still have more to farm to make it stronger.

Although I don’t think this was intended, it is also similar to what people said “in D2 a well-rolled rare can be better than unique”. A well-rolled legendary is sometimes better than ancient.

Primal actually makes farming easier so I love the idea too. I don’t bot and play maybe 100 hours per season. I think a majority of players - not majority on the forum, of curese - play less than me so I feel it’s good to make it easier to get good gears.

Please use one of the existing D4 threads or the sticky.

Thank you.

Introducing Paragon Levels 2.0 where your Paragon level is more like a gear level. You choose one item to work towards becoming an ancient at a time. Each kill/dungeon/endgame mechanic counts towards progression of making a Legendary an Ancient. I don’t think it would be very fun if the implemented endgame mechanic was put into place solely for this. Maybe if it had another purpose stacked unto it. You know, throw it on top of the Keyed dungeons.

NO. I’m firmly against the idea because it’s just going to be more creep and it’s just an artificial way to double the amount of items. It didn’t work in D3 and it shouldn’t even be considered in D4. Unreal.

No, I hate the ancient/primal system as is. It makes legendaries feel cheap. If you find a legendary that should be it you found that legendary.

That being said, I’m not against a way of upgrading a legendary through crafting, or the above mentioned leveling of the item through use. But it can’t be solely RNG based. The RNG is finding the legendary, anything after that has to be effort imo.

I hate the idea of Ancient Legendary items. So you find a few legendary items that are good for your build. Great, now you can clear GR70. Next step? Find the same exact items, but ancient so you can clear GR100. What now? Farm better ancients of the exact same gear, and maybe a primal. Now you can clear GR100. Now augment that same gear, and you can clear a GR120. So it’s basically fake content. Working to find an upgrade of the same item you’ve been wearing forever so you can kill the same mobs with more HP… it’s just not fun.

In general, Legendary items are a downgrade from Uniques. Uniques from D1/D2 were designed from top to bottom by the devs. They decided what exact stats should be on them with little variability. Legendary items are just like yellow items, but with a legendary affix. You basically just pray for Main/crit/crit for any legendary. It’s far more RNG dependent.

I wouldn’t mind ancient versions of legendary items. DII had a similar version, upping uniques using a cube, belts which had 3 rows could be upped to have 4, gloves and boots had small increased defense.

I’d like to have it where it doesn’t get out of hand, in terms of, +1000% better than the original.
