[D4] David Kim leaves D4?

They were talking about it on Rhykkers stream today.

His bio on Linkedin shows him with WoW as of September

Principal Game Designer
Full-time
Dates Employed Sep 2020 – Present
Employment Duration 2 mos
Principal Game Designer on World of Warcraft

It appears that Joe Piepiora is the new Lead System Designer.

Oct 2020 – Present

Rhykker went into detail about this on his twitch stream yesterday, they even checked the major developers from the Blizzcon press packet with Linkedin to see which ones were still with Diablo. Candice Thomas is also gone. He will talk more about this on his gaming news update on Saturday.

Rhykker will cover this on this gaming new update on Saturday.

That depends whether you like Arpg PvP or not.

David Kim has a lot of experiences on doing PvP balance. If he left D4 team, the D4 PvP balance development may get affected.

That’s bad news. :grimacing:

Joe Piepiora was the Lead Systems Designer on the Heroes of the Storm development team.

Wasn’t HotS an epic fail?

RIP D4 then.

Is he the new d4 lead designer now?

No, Luis Barriga is still the big boss.

The new guy gets in place regarding systems like itemization.

Well, let’s not judge him before he states his views etc, but I think they didn’t gave enough time Divid Kim. And why totally remove him from the D4 team?

compared to warcraft reforged or diablo immortal?
no matter where you look, there is enough material for memes or 1st april jokes.

Yes, they have the hidden potential to ruin every game.

This is huge. I mean, I love David Kim, seems a nice guy.
but its kinda obvious he, or better “they”, didn’t know which is the direction the game needs to be taken.
plus they wasted a lot of time making blunders in the most basic aspects of the game reflect some incompetence, or some lack of knowledge at least. Im thinking here about item power creep, or the skill tree which was, well…so and so to be polite

Really hope the Joe Piepora guy is prepared…or better: he needs to be a GEEK of the genre.
Lets see how it goed…, this guy has a big part of the future of the franchise in his hands

Hope that the D4 itemization won’t ended up like HoTS talents which is weak and underwhelming.

No. The game was great. It was just way too late. That plus many man children raged over team experience. But the game itself has een solid since launch as a game. But you know coming intonthe MOBA scene like 10 years late when only 1 maybe 2 games shown they had any staying power was always going to be rough.

Anecdotally, I can get into QM or ranked solo play pretty quickly no matter when I play so I can’t be as dead as people claim.

I’d also say this is similar to the Dave Kossak situation. Kim was not well received by this forum so if people start a D4s falling apart because Kim was valuable to the development crap, then this place loses credibility.

Well, wie can only wait for the first quarterly blog post with the new guy and see what he has to offer about itemization

Not in my case.

And I was queuing at the peak hour on that time.

As for the Quick Match, it is clown fiesta.

Did you see the 2 newbies in Team B VS Team A that full of veteran players?

This would be 100% delayed due to this change.

Eh… and everything was so easy: just take D2 itemization and improve upon.

This may say more about the state of WoW Shadowlands than about anything D4 related. Moving people to other games is something pretty common at Blizz - hard to say why it was done without being involved in the decisions.

I dont know about that.
Starcraft 1 is far better balanced than Starcraft 2 and requires much more APM and unit and micro management than Starcraft2.
Between Starcraft 1 and 2 i prefer the graphics of starcraft 2 but starcraft 1 is by far more fun than starcraft 2.
