[D4] Black books and concealed temples

Black books are rare drops which contain information about future illuminations. They mark the exact place and date when the illumination is to happen.

Illuminations reveal secret temples and tombs through light which are exposed only to those holding the respective Black book.

An illumination is active for one minute and if the adventurer possessing the Black book is late for the event he would not be able to enter into the concealed temple. Usually there are 20-30 copies of a single Black book so like-minded adventurers could form groups for the secret temples. If a nearby player without a Black book passes while an illumination is happening on the world map he won’t notice it. He would just observe a dozen of players disappearing like they are logging-out.

Concealed temples and tombs are zones of great interest for those players that regard themselves more as treasure hunters and explorers instead of demon slayers. These ancient structures hold forgotten secrets, hidden doors and portals, and many chests with great rewards.

So, would you go to sleep if you know an illumination is to happen at night?

Seems you have way too much free time ^^

instead of creating one topic after another … why not wait till we can see in wich direction our journey goes

You will most likely only see other People while you are in a Event, a PvP-Zone or at a Worldboss.
Otherwise it is a rare occurrence

Even in a Town, a Village or in a Camp after it is captured, you will only encounter a few lone Adventurer.

After all.
You will never feel the Horror of Santuary, where 90% of the Humans are gone, if you see hundreads of Players running around.
You will never feel special, if you have to stand in line for 20 Minutes, until you get the Quest frome the NPC

In a weird way I have to admire you for being able to one-up yourself on bad ideas each time :stuck_out_tongue:
Anyway, encouraging players to log into the game in the middle of the night is indeed bad game design.
So is encouraging them to do the same at any specific minute during the day.

For the same reason, IF D4 has anything resembling the MMO design of “dailies” they should be weeklies or even better, last multiple weeks.

I think it’s already there with timed world events though. Be it killing a boss or facing a huge horde, game supposed to present a cooldown about when it will available again. This will force players to log in at the middle of the night, evening or morning. Even trading and sniping items from Vickrey auctions could be part of this cycle. This sort of design asks for nothing extra when it’s already embed into the game by comparison.

It maybe flawed because people have to work for money and study for their marks, but when it pays back even a little player would forget the sacrifice they have made. Afterall, all games want some dedication so companies may show their Monthly Active User reports to the investors.

This sounds like more or less that timed dungeon in Act 2 but I have many questions about the time duration for the event entrance. One minute is way too short for people to communicate and get ready for supposedly a grand scale instance.

World bosses will have the most, towns second most, camps/local events third most, in the open world the fewest.

I figured going off interviews it will be:

25 - world bosses
10-15 - towns
5 - camos/local events
1-2 - open world occasionally

You can be there at any time. One minute is just the active illumination during which you have to enter in the temple/tomb alone or with your group. After that it’s an instance dungeon.

More or less, yea.
Even though, it might be a bit higher in PvP-Zones.

Also it might be a nice Idea to have a tiny, little button somewhere on the side, where it doesn´t is to aggressive, to signal the player that he is in an area, where he could meat other players
some just like to play on theyr own. so to see an adventurer once in a while might be ok. while other would like to feel a bit more in a crowded area instead of beeing always alone.

so having the oppertunity to join this phasings, where other players might be, or sticking with himself, because he likes to be the lone warrior while in his story, might be a nice idea.

Forgot PvP. I’d expect that to max out around world boss levels. Outside of those bigger ones you really aren’t going to see many at all. I have no issues seeing towns filled or “needing” many to take down a world boss threat. Outside of those two things the likelyhood of seeing more than a handful of players in a session are probably low.

I don’t think things will get aggressive in terms if seeing others. They mentioned striking a balance of acknowledging others and still feeling desolate and dangerous. So big threats will see more players, towns, where you’d expect to see others we will, out killing stuffs, not so much if at all.

Joa

But as sayed. It might be a nice addition.
Some, like me, like to do theyr story as hero alone, but would like to call in some others for events / quests dungeons via a quick-serch.
and other might feel a bit lonly if they are the only ones running around in an empty world

so to suit most of them, just a tiny indicator, that doesn´t bother everyone, would be a nice addition, so that the player itself can choose, if he would like to see just once in the while someone or if he would pref. some more players around him.

Doesn’t make it less bad.
Not that I got the impression from world bosses that it would be something you would have to time. More something you stumble into.

Campaign is completely solo unless you want to group with others so there is at least that. The shared world doesn’t happen until you finish the main story and enter endgame.

Does this really matter ?

As sayed. Some might like to see other Players, some might enjoy to do pvp on lvl 20 …
also some might look for someone to participate in theyr quest/event on lvl 15, wich is meant to defeand a camp / village.

=)

as sayed.
I like to play the Story on my self too. But there are also a lot of People, who would like to see some other People.

So to have something (like the sayed tiny button) besides the “LF Quest/Event/Dungeon” , that lets this Players interact with like-minded, cant really hurt
It only helps a broader audiace to enjoy the game in the way they would like it, without disturbing the others.

Exploration and treasure hunt doesnt sound like Diablo to me. You’re meant to kill this big bad boss, and out of sudden you want to go treasure hunting.

I disagree as, it’s literally an activity that can be done in the previous Diablo games. So if Diablo 4 adds more explorative activities, that’d be awesome imo.

Yeah, Ive said it before I would prefer “progressive” design.

Lots of game has exploration and treasure hunting etc.

And? That’s supposed to mean that Diablo 4 shouldn’t?

Its devs call in the end. We all arent gonna get what we want, thats a fact.

I mean, exploration is already confirmed on their radar. So the only question is how explorative and rewarding said activity will be, especially when compared to the rest of game’s activities.

Come on, things change all the time, this is development phase, this game doesnt even have release date yet.

I think its no-brainer that Diablo should have progressive desing. Exploration and treasure hunting is almost like anti-progressive desing. You gotta turn left or right, or start looking some map etc.

Not to that degree. The only way that I see that they’ll change the exploration aspect of Diablo 4 is if they literally either cancel said game and/or scrap it and redo from scratch, neither of which I expect to happen as it’s highly unlikely. In short, Diablo 4 will have explorative activity in it.
