So it seems. Now when you level up you get only 1 skill point.
Now items provide +X to Strength/Intelligence/Etc. instead of +X% which points out to attributes coming from items only (and paragons starting level 50).
This reinforce a more general feeling that the developpers are backsliding to some of the worse D3 systems. I know this is an alpha so things may still change for the better; it’s the trend that I’m concerned about.
I haven’t been paying attention to the alpha (nor it’s leaks), but if that is the case, that would be quite disappointing imo. I quite liked the December 2020 update blog where it detailed that skills had upgrade nodes that had bonuses, that required reaching specific thresholds for certain attributes that you allocated your points in. Now while the concept certainly needed adjustments, it was a step in a great direction imo.
Yeah, I quite liked that too. I’m disapointed that the leaks don’t show that being a thing. Here’s to hoping that the leaks are just a older version and didn’t have it implemented yet.
Attributes while leveling is an utterly pointless mechanic that only exists so Diablo 2 boomers can feel a bit of nostalgia. This is a game where massive amounts of stats will come from items and the endgame paragon board system which is designed to keep players progressing after reaching endgame.
It makes sense that they’ve removed such an utterly pointless and badly designed relic from an outdated game like Diablo 2.
The point system is an illusion of choice. Once someone figures out the best builds many people will just copy them (because they cannot think for themselves) and put all of the points where they need to be. I did not care for D2s point system. D3s paragon was no better. If they keep D3s fluid combat I will be happy.
Your argument is invalid due to the fact that two Paragon agglomerations won’t be the same due to the random nature of Paragon boards attached and the point where the attachment will be chosen. The copy-paste phenomenon can happen in DI when the Paragon Trees are known in advance and are the same for all.
Getting more power as you’re leveling up is a pointless mechanic? If that’s the case why have leveling at all, the only purpose it fills would be as a timesink.
I would argue D3:s system was better for a number of reasons, for example it’s a dynamic system you can change as you please and it’s a “bonus” rather than a core aspect of your character.
Once the guys at maxroll figure it all out they will post guides and others will simply copy. Regardless of how the paragon board is configured maxroll will determine the best allocation for the points and the sheep will follow. It does not matter if you do not agree.
It’s pretty much impossible to make a system witch actual choices, especially in an game you can tackle solo, the only way for that to happen is to make everything equal, which kinda makes the choice pointless anyway.
For the argument that the attribute allocation will simply result in people copying builds online. I’ll simply say that’ll happen regardless of attribute allocations. Some folks will post builds online, and some folks will copy them.
The fact that there will be stat nodes on every paragon board and a finite number of points, means there will still be an optimal build for paragon in that regard. You will go to maxroll and it will tell you for your Str based WW Barb, you will want to have x amount of Str, y amount of Dex, z amount of Wil, and these preferred bonuses. For your Dex based WW Barb, you will want…and people will copy it.
From the tidbits of the skilltree in the leaks it seems they removed that idea too. Which is logical considering we won’t have control over attribute allocation.
I understand the urge not to throw too much stuff at the players’ head in the beginning of the game but if everything is pushed back to paragons/other endgame system, then leveling is going to feel as bland as it is in D3.
Pushing attributes points at lvl10 + respec should have been enough imo.
So they should remove skill points and paragon too ? Players will also copy those in the end.
Allocating points is part of the pleasure of building a character, it’s that simple.
But I sure hope not. It already also very much seemed like the whole “Attribute Breakpoints in Skill Upgrades” were gone. Which is likewise quite a shame.
Similar with Runes being gone. The dynamic rune words seemed like one of D4s best new features.
This is simply false. Only happens with really badly designed systems, such as D2 attributes, or, well, everything in D3.
In a well designed system, multiple paths can be best. For different things.
So, you will have guides (which is completely fine), but you very well might have guides both for Str Barbs and Wis Barbs etc.
This is very true.
It will also happen even if those builds are not “best”.
