Explainer

Fantasy: Vampire, Bats, Shapeshifting, Any class
Best attributes: Area damage, Attack Speed, Life per hit
Gameplay: Bloodlust [1] + Misty Step [Right Click]. Position in skill bar can be changed.
Vampiric Thirst 2 pieces: Swarm centers on target, or auto-targets, hits every second, fades 3 seconds after attack, isn’t a pet, can be buffed from behind as Bloodlust does not need target.
Vampiric Thirst 4 pieces: 100% / 20s = 5% damage taken = 95% damage deferred. Life Regen.
Vampiric Thirst 6 pieces: Player attacks foes. Snapshot their higher max life. Player + Swarm apply 0.5% per hit. Enemies use damage reduction. This damage cannot be increased in any way. Impact on itemization. Set: 2 rings + 1 shield = Lots of builds. Other 6p sets don’t buff 6p. In-Geom, Echoing Fury, The Executioner, Flying Dragon (Monk) are solid options.

At least they can use a darkened version of Firebats instead of having create more artwork…

Not interested, myself, as I find the vampire theme to be dead and boring.

I would imagine getting a rift guardian like Hamelin would really really suck.

Vampires carry strong folklore.
To be fun they have to be very scary.

Vampire, I mean darkest ones, have their place in the Diablo Universe.

Unfortunately Trag’Oul’s Avatar, while being oriented on Blood Magic, was never able to fulfill this role.

Yes, it is possible.

The effect happens on 20 yards and many bats have to be displayed to make the effect cool.

Several solutions:

  • A) 50-100 x 3D model of small bats (base model: Firebat ?)
  • B) 50-100 x 2D layers of small bats
  • C) 1 x 2D layer of 50-100 small bats (base model: Locust Swarm ?)

C is preferable for performance.
B is a good compromise for animating bats independantly (erratic + hord movement)
A is the more realistic, but can be non-neutral on GPU on some devices

Why ?

As a Strigoï:

Because the adds he summons are exceedingly weak, and would make you tickle the actual boss?

Hehe, subtle wording implied

This is why your character has to attack the boss.

attack !== hit

You character attack the most powerful enemy.

Then the swarm handles all enemies within 20 yards of your target.

It is similar to Command Skeletons.

You can continue to attack the target (best for damage), or cowardly strategically retreat and let the swarm do the dirty work.

The swarm follows your target until:

  • the target dies
  • the swarm expires
  • you attack a new target

Once your target dies,
The swarm automatically selects the next target, until:

  • the swarm expires
  • you attack a new target

Yeah, I got that part, but I assumed

was an AoE attack due to the wording, and really the only attack I can see you do yourself, so not hitting one of the many adds seems quite impossible in that case.

Good catch, thanks ! :+1:

Fixed:

On a side note, Hammerlin’s swarm is close to what I imagine for the swarm of bats. More horizontal than vertical, but that kind erratic movement, applied on a 20 yards radius.
