Some people come to the D3 forum to vent about D4. They say that D4 is basically D3.5 or that D4 looks just like D3. They also say that D3 was a failure and that D4 is a rehash of D3. Has anyone complied a list of all of the D3 features that have been incorporated into D4 (so far) vs everything that they have already used from D2?
- Keyed Dungeon
- Paragon
- Goblins ( I think?)
- Legendary Power
- CC, CD, CDR stat
- Cooldown on skills and potion
- 6 Skills Bar
- Mobility skill for each class
- Crowd Control skill
- Elite offensive affixes such as Arcane Laser (I think?)
- 4 party members on dungeon
This is what I can remember. Correct me if I am wrong.
In 9 years I have never seen a Keyed Dungeon in D3, I need to start looking for them.
I do not recall them talking about paragon in D4. Do you have a link for the reference?

On end game - They want there to be a variety of activities. World bosses are one example. Key dungeons are another. Key dungeons are inspired by greater rifts and will be another end game activity.
They confirmed goblins will be in D4
Not the same as paragon. Thanks for the link.
Yea it kinda bugs me how people keep talking about paragon in D4 as if it was a thing
A lot of games have an endgame system and most of them are better than that
So I am personally just allergic to that word^^
It hasn’t been officially confirmed, I think, but it is safe to bet that they have implemented level scaling (monsters are always the level you are). Although it is something that is a definitive red flag for me, I can hardly see how they wouldn’t have implemented it in a game that’s meant to be open world (at best I can hope for optional disabling of this feature).
It was from the mouth of the Lead Game Designer himself, so it is indeed a thing.
Allergic all you want but it is inevitable.
If you are looking for 1:1, then, of course, you can’t find it. But there is no denying that most of the D4 features were either borrowed or inspired by D3 design itself.
That’s basically saying it’s not the same as rifts.
From what was showed at Blizzcon, it has much more to do with PoE’s maps. Obviously, the developper couldn’t say they were inspired by the competition.
For the same reason I don’t think one can say “paragon” is coming back, but an post-leveling progression system, yes.
But your list is good overall. I might add :
- Different Energies for each class
- Similar skill design (basic skills / secondary skills / defense…)
- Simplified inventory and shared stash
I don’t like that either, but it depends on how much flexibility the system can provide. In Grim Dawn it was handled quite well, unlike the very strict “plvl = mlvl” of D3.
True, but it is still a “feature” that exists from Diablo 3 that got brought over to Diablo 4.
Let’s say “randomized endgame dungeons” then. It’s just a matter of wording, I guess we agree on the content. ^^
Getting inspierd by something dosen’t mean it’s copyed 1:1
yep
lets say “some endgame progression system” and stop with that BS XD
Not really thanks anyway.
I actually dropped Grim Dawn due to it. ![]()
That being said, we can also add the “always online” “feature” to the list.
They are seriously putting that again in the game?
we are trying to stop them xD
Ouch ^^ I thought it didn’t fell on the same trap than RoS, which was effectively making the player weaker, instead of stronger, with each level. This probably has to do with the fact items are the only source of power in D3.
Indeed.
