D2:R - Solution to Loot

There are massive arguments for and against individual loot.

Why not preserve the current system, but add a roll system (need or greed), and enable party leader or party to set the system to suit the players.

No need for individual loot and the problems many have cited come with it - the only thing this stops is melee players nabbing all of the items and running, leaving the ranged for dead.

There’s nothing to argue about…

Personal loot is the superior system whether some “purists” like it or not.

Ranged characters won’t be screwed , High Latency players won’t be screwed , pickit Bots and ninja looting will be irrelevant , economy will BOOM and more people will play together with randoms (without the fear of getting screwed over loot).

Plus if we ever get cross-play…console players will be screwed as well…

Personal loot has no negatives…while shared loot has tons of negatives… and there’s a reason ALL LOOTING games have moved over to personal loot.

ps. roll system will take way to long for a game like this…and again trolls can manipulate this system by NEEDING all the time…

It’s a middle ground. You are ignoring peoples arguments for personal loot.

Why not allow players to set it to a mode that suits them?

That would be fine… choices are good. Even though no one would use shared loot ever again…

That’s why the majority of people play solo (even on bnet) because they afraid of their loot being stolen… another good reason why personal loot is superior and will encourage teamplay.

I find that hard to believe given the many, many people in D2R: Personal/Instanced Loot is a MUST for this game! - #526 by Coreander-2636
that have presented arguments, and opinions that demonstrate they do prefer shared loot. Just because you have such a strong view, doesn’t mean others share it.

I’m not saying I like shared loot, I’m just presenting a middle ground and options that will satisfy people with different views.

They have weak arguments (which i debunked each and every one) and they are the same 3 people who advocate for no changes (vocal minority)… the majority want QoL features like this one.

Those few who prefer it used bots back in the day or they were leeching each item.

Middle ground would be to have both options.

There’s a reason most people play PoD or PD2 instead of base D2…

ps. it’s not my view , it’s a fact because all RPGs use personal loot nowadays… public/shared loot is outdated. You need to be realistic and not a mindless fanboy with rose-tinted glasses on…

Then you’re making the same mistake that the “vocal minority” you complain about are making.

I think personal or instance loot is vastly better than shared loot, but I don’t pretend it’s anything other than my own personal opinion. One cannot be quantitatively measured against the other, and by insisting that they can be you (and the vocal minority) are denying all proper debate on the subject.

The middle ground that Sylus refers to is what I think would in fact be the best solution - have both loot systems, the one in operation being set by the player making the game.

Look at it this way. If we took a massive vote on having personal loot or share loot, in my opinion, the personal loot would vastly outweigh the share loot vote. Just look at the forum posts and their likes to dislike ratios for evidence to support this. Now if D2R team decided to play both side and make it an option, in my opinion it would be like adding the “walk” option in D2. Its there but no one really uses it instead of running all the time. So why waste development time on something that will eventually fade with time instead of using that development time to work on other equally important QOL improvements.

BTW Snake I really enjoy reading your posts. Savage

If there were poll, I’d agree, I reckon the instance loot would win by a mile and a half.

I got to give personal loot my vote. I would go with shared loot if I was a griefer though.

Ironically there is nothing to argue. Resurrection isn’t going to redesign the core aspect of the game just to pander to a minority.

The developers made that crystal clear actually.

It may be a shock to some but the DIII forums do not represent the D2R player-base.

Anyone babbling on about personalized loot is simply delusional.

This is misleading on 2 fronts.

First, we do not know what viewpoit is the minority. My suspicion is that personal loot is favored by the majority. There is a reason that this has been widely adopted in modern aRPGs. D3 has personal loot I bet becausebthere was so many who preferred that over FFA when Blizzard evaluated the views of D2 players while D3 was under development.

Secondly, FFA loot will.stay in D2R. However, the developers clearly liked the idea of giving selectable options. FFA and personal loot can become selecrable options per game session.

Is there any reason why D2 players don’t post there? I mean, it is understandable to post at D3 General Discussion if there is no D2 section…but those sections exist.

LOL!

Hopefully after launch they’ll continue to support the game and this necessary QOL feature is added. They did say they were open to adding more QOL stuff after release.

D2 classic loot system is much worse than even stamina.

The game is already separated by several different modes.

Softcore, hardcore, classic, expansion, ladder and non-ladder

There’s absolutely no way they are going redesign the core just to add more.

Personalized loot isn’t a quality of life issue. It’s literally how the game was played 20 years ago and is one of the many aspects they are preserving.

Providing the same version of the game on multiple platforms means more money.

Or are you purposefully being obtuse?

How are you certain? Pouring more resources into design and play testing to satisfy a minority of people who will spend more time on the forums than playing the actual game seems like a terrible idea.

We’re talking about D2R, for which there IS a forum. Unfortunately Blizzard, in their infinite wisdom, is charging to use that forum. Normally I wouldn’t mind, but the game they’re charging us for is 9 months until release.

Therefore, D3 forum is now pulling triple duty, acting as the D2R and D4 forums as well.
