I think thats possible, all game logic is actually D2 working underneath, so save format will be same.

Why? Doesn’t that defeat the purpose of starting over?
No, it won’t be possible.Old Bnet saves and the new Bnet will run separately (as they do now) and you will not be able to transfer between the 2.
I didn’t see it officially but have read several times it is not possible.
